Replace Windows or Adjust Existing Ones?

Yikes, guess I wont be changing out my windows anytime soon.  I thought my neighbor got ripped when he told me it cost him $35K to replace all his windows in his house.  Taking your numbers, $35K is about right.  I am going to have to stick with my single pane.

    COX v. UVERSE

qwerty, I have a similar DirecTV setup as yours.  Did you get that DirectTV 'to go' unit similar to the slingbox?  I currently have the slingbox but channel changing and studdering sucks on ipad/iphone with it.  On the PC it is fine.  I was told by Slingbox their older units did not have the...

    Is this infestation?

Forgot to say, since it is a brand new home, you may have squatted on their home that was there before your home was built.

    Is this infestation?

Those little black 'pebbles' look like rat/mouse turds.  The other stuff looks like it was chewed on.  I think you may have a mouse problem.  Pretty common in Orange County.  Put out traps with peanut butter on them and/or rat poison or call an exterminator. Do you or your neighbors have fruit...

Baker Ranch Sinkhole? Need your feedback.

Looks like it may have been a shallow pool of water that dried up based on the photos and the trees that were surrounding it.  IMHO, I would not be too worried about it.

    What the bubble?!?

Pretty sure it has been said but some friends I have in the servicing and FC/REO side of the house said they bundled REO homes in groups of 20-40 properties at a time and sold them in bulk to investors who then would 'fix up/touch up' the homes and pepper them on the market to sell near market...

Would you buy a new home in a haunted neighborhood?

Several years ago when we were looking for our 'move up' house, we saw many houses in many areas and there was two houses in particular I got the creeps or felt an air of 'sadness' in the home.  One of the homes was in 'The Village' in Coto.  The home was empty (REO) and was actually...

Coto de Caza or Covenant Hills (Ladera Ranch)

If you want something closer to the Irvine temps during the summer, I would stay close to or be on the west side of the 5.  Look in Aliso, Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest, etc.  Not sure how far south you are willing to Venture but Dana Point and SJC and SC are very nice too.  They don't have as much...

Coto de Caza or Covenant Hills (Ladera Ranch)

You are right about the hum.  I remember that hum living in Irvine with the windows open in summer.  In L.N. I don't hear much except crickets (literally) and a train horn in the distance when the wind is blowing right.  One thing I do hear where I live is the fog horn from Dana Point when it is...

    Can you smell the landfill?

It is playing 24/7 but I always leave the room and hide in a dark corner and start rocking back and forth whispering "make it go away mommy, make it go away"

    CCW in the OC

Saw yesterday that the California AG is filing an appeal.  This may actually make it to the SCOTUS at this rate and the SCOTUS decision will be applied to the entire nation instead of just CA.  This may get really interesting.

    Can you smell the landfill?

Sing to "Would you like to build a snowman" from Frozen... "Can you smell the dirty landfill?....Does it stink reallllly bad?.....When the wind is blow-ing, and the trash trucks are tow-ing to the duuummmppp?"

Coto de Caza or Covenant Hills (Ladera Ranch)

It's all perspective.  People in L.A. probably feel the same about Irvine and the OC.

Coto de Caza or Covenant Hills (Ladera Ranch)

I have looked in both areas before we bought down by Dana Point. As SoCal says, in Coto area there is some of that 'inside/outside' of the gates thing which is not a big deal to me.  It does get a bit hotter there in the summer and to get 'clubhouse' access is expensive.  The houses are...

Audiophiles - Speakers in Great Room

There are so many good options nowadays at a good price.  You can't go wrong with any of the options listed in this thread.  It really depends on what are you going to be using the speakers for primarily (including the type of music you listen to), the look you want in your house and how much...

    CCW in the OC

I am by no means in 'the know' but I believe the first offense (with a legally registered gun you own) with no extenuating circumstances (school zone, etc) is usually a misdemeanor, fine and probation. Funny thing is concealed carrying certain knives (dagger) is a felony (from what I read), so...

Just had a contractor walk out the door and disappear on us this weekend...

Have not had much luck with CL "contractors either.  Had a guy quote me $300 to fix my gazebo in my old house.  He then dropped some guy off with some tools and told him to patch it up with wood filler and caulk.  I was like WTF?!?  I said I wanted the wood replaced like we spoke about.  He then...

    CCW in the OC

My brother in law just called and got an appointment date in August.  They told him the phones have been ringing non-stop since the decision so they are booked out six months and growing.

    CCW in the OC

I just read somewhere the Sheriff in San Diego county notified the county board today he was not going to file en banc.  So does that mean all CA counties now need to comply?
