Pure curiosity, and you don't need to share, how did you possibly earn $200K working through college?  What job were you working that paid that much, net of tuition/housing costs. I'm presuming you had no housing costs (and were living at home)? 

I grew up riding on sidewalks and when my kids start to learn to ride their bikes (without training wheels), they will also ride on sidewalks. I don't ride on streets unless I have on option (i.e, sidewalks are closed) for the very reasons you mention.  Unrelated, any good methods to teaching...

I actually just came across this thread and read the first two posts (befor the 3rd one) and was about to say great tips. Very much appreciate them. 

From a commuting perspective, TL has the best location though. If it weren't for the base and any environmental concerns, I'd say its pure location would be pretty prime (outside of places with more hilly terrain..i.e., turtle rock / shady / OH). 

I actually love what they did for a kids room. Give kids plenty of space to be able to put stuff out on the carpet and play and have room to play/crawl.

Not sure if it is still there, but there used to be a shooting range up there and I thought like a camp/temporary housing for those who work the fields in the area (or something like that).  This goes years back and some of that might be an urban myth.
