Area between Furrow St. and Bella Vista in OH

joke4real sounds like he cares more about finding a long term home that's going to be the best place for raising his family in the setting he desires, not looking to ride the property appreciation ladder. Those are two different approaches to buying a house.  This is his priority. Your priority...

The lower elementary draws from OH neighborhood. The middle school draws from the old wider catchment area. Beckman high school is more diverse with approximately 1/3, 1/3 and 1/3 split of the three major demographic groups in OC.

When would be next housing Bottom?

I doubt any real mainlanders are on an english language forum. anyone want to pipe up and prove me wrong? I get the feeling that most of the Asians on here are actually Asian Americans. (1.5 gen or more) and have a very different point of view than real recent immigrants/expats.

    Market Top

this house is actually infamous. The LA Times even wrote it up back in 1995. I think its one of the few non HOA neighborhoods in Irvine, which is how you end up getting something like that .

Harvard records show discrimination against Asian-Americans

I agree with you on using socio-economic factors as a basis for affirmative action, not race. There is some overlap between race and socio-economic factors such that using economic class as proxy would secondarily help improve racial diversity within an admitted class cohort.  But without...

Harvard records show discrimination against Asian-Americans

I suggest that all parents who own a house in Irvine for the sake of their kids' schooling should immediately sell and move to Montana, or Compton, or the Central Valley. Or move abroad and educate your kids in the expat/international school system. If you want to game the system for college...

Harvard records show discrimination against Asian-Americans

honest question, would these "unremarkable" Asian high achievers be "unremarkable" if they had similar stats and extracurriculars/recommendations but were of a different race? or would your committee be gushing about how much they have achieved and are a clear admit? to be honest, no one has...

Harvard records show discrimination against Asian-Americans

there seems to be an unspoken assumption in this post and other posts that: 1) the only thing that Asian kids have going for them is high grades and test scores 2) the only reason why these high achieving Asian kids have these high test scores is because they went through years of SAT prep...

    Housing Analysis

This is why there should be bus service. Its not even just the traffic on the roads. Its waiting in the pick-up/drop off lines that's a killer.

Properties Closing Less than Previous Purchase Price

I heard through the grapevine that the Shadybend house had more than $100K  fines from the HOA for uncompleted landscaping, so this likely factored into the lower selling price if the new buyer had to pay off those liens.

Which part of Irvine to move to?

I think the white Mercedes SUV comment was a reference to multiple previous posts on NextDoor highlighting extremely poor and/or aggressive drivers nearly running people over or causing accidents, driving...you guessed it...white Mercedes SUV.

Properties Closing Less than Previous Purchase Price

They're definitely out there, in multiple different neighborhoods: The common theme seems to be the large size of these homes (>3600-4000 sq ft or so) Great Park: https://www.redfin.com/CA/Irvine/127-Branch-92618/home/51684947...

    After School Activities/Programs for Kindergartener

It depends on which elementary school you're at. Sometimes, nearby centers will actually pick up kids at dismissal time and bring them to their center. For example, Northpark has a Kindercare nearby that will pick up the kids from Hicks Canyon Elementary and bring them over. You could also try...

Bestest Newest Detachedest Home in Irvine for less than $1m?

You''ll be even happier you have a 3 car garage if/when that day comes :) I have two houses down the street from me, one with 5 cars, another with 4 cars, due to large multigenerational households...somehow its karma that they are right next to each other and constantly fighting for parking...
