Orchard Hills 4 - "The Summit" Updates

yeah that's a good point, my friend has a ~5M house in orchard hills, and compared to my ~2M house in Lake Forest, what he has is huge bedrooms and a super awesome backyard and pool. But house wise, it's not a huge step up. It's nice that the kids rooms are gigantic, but he doesn't have more...

Orchard Hills 4 - "The Summit" Updates

This makes a lot of sense to me. I like nice cars and fancy clothes too, but I resist the impulse to splurge there. Instead i've got a really nice place that is great for my family, close to parks, and good for entertaining. Easily the best splurge I've ever made. The Porsche will have to...

Orchard Hills 4 - "The Summit" Updates

No, that would be ridiculous. Having an extra 10% more money *in the bank* at the cost of not living in the city you dream about or having enough space for kids to run around is insane. Assets are assets more or less, maybe they have slightly different single digit percentage point returns...

Orchard Hills 4 - "The Summit" Updates

yeah it's not the offer amount, it's the vested amount. If you got an offer from Tesla in ~2020 and it paid $100k salary and grant that is 100k a year in RSUs *over four years*, guess what, by year 4 you were making probably 150k in salary (assume small promo/raises) and....a whopping 1M in...

Orchard Hills 4 - "The Summit" Updates

Most post series D "deca-corns" like Databricks, Stripe, SpaceX etc. all have liquidity events multiple times a year that allow employees to sell their RSUs, so the money is worth something, just less liquid than a typical big tech company that has a vesting schedule of months or quarters...

Orchard Hills 4 - "The Summit" Updates

I work with a lot of very high income tech folks and I don't know any buying 4M+ properties! There just aren't that many people in tech making 1M+ a year consistently unless you're talking director level or higher at a FAANG company. People who are buying those houses are paying cash...

Where people are moving to and which states you have to make the most money to live in

right, but what people don't realize is you can get quite a 'discount' by buying out of the Irvine zipcodes and still get a lot of the same benefits (though maybe not the school district). I'd guess you could get a house in Tustin Ranch or Lake Forest for 30% less than an equivalent one in...

Johns Creek ranks #1 Best Place to Live by U.S. News & World Report

I used to want to live in Irvine, but look at the place I found! That's my street, just a short walk to a huge park for the kids, it's sunny and warm 9 months of the year. Now I don't miss Irvine (but i'm still a 10 minute drive to the spectrum and some good Irvine KBBQ)...

    ICE or EV?

If base taycans had an OK range i'd probably buy a used one now. Can't see myself shelling out 45k for a luxury car that only gets 180 miles at best though.

Where people are moving to and which states you have to make the most money to live in

Haha. It was TwentySomethingWEquity 15 years ago. I was able to change it when the site changed, but now i'm stuck. You're right, i'm a bit out of the 30s now, but just a bit. It's a common expression, but sure I'll be more civil. People should pursue the life and work they want, I don't...

Where people are moving to and which states you have to make the most money to live in

Well, I moved to Foothill Ranch, and I'm pretty happy. I'm close enough to be able to work for a Silicon Valley team that gives me gobs of stock, but more importantly, I get to work on really cool things. I certainly couldn't do that working from bumfuck Georgia. It's pretty cool to be able...

Where people are moving to and which states you have to make the most money to live in

Why do you think the Irvine prices are higher? Maybe because...more people want to live there?

Where people are moving to and which states you have to make the most money to live in

yup, I've had multiple jobs where my team was up in Santa Clara/Sunnyvale, and I've been able to quietly work from remote offices down here, since it's such a quick flight when necessary.

2025 Top Public Colleges & Universities

I think you are vastly overestimating the importance of 'how hard a school is to get into'. There is way more variation between how rigorous a particular undergraduate program than just an aggregate acceptance level. This much focus on college is probably a waste. No one is impressed by...

So you're saying it would be a good time to be in the market for a 6M teardown flip?

    EV/Plug-in/Other vehicles

Macan EV looks awesome. I don't think people who drive gas cars on the daily realize how inconvenient going to the gas station can be. An EV is definitely fantastic for a commuter car. If I had my dream stable, I'd have an EV for every day driving/commuting, a 911, and *maybe* a gas/hybrid...

    Burger Thread

I tried The Cut recently, it was good but quite pricey. My five year old son had never eaten a 'bone' so I had to order the bone marrow for him. Fries were $8. The double smash burger was $14 and didn't even come with fries but *damn* it was tasty. If you're rich, you should go here a lot.

    Tesla Cybertruck

Also I think the cybertruck looks bonkers cool. My son loves them too. I won't pay $80k+, but if it was ~50k I'd be pretty tempted.

no, but I really just want to be able to hit my spotify playlist from the app without paying $8 a month. I can do that from my wife's VW with apple carplay...

I really don't like having to pay for premium connectivity though.
