I can only speak for northwood. Can a kid get straight A, excellent sat and ap score without any tutoring? Yes. Can a kid get into good schools without being a superman and live a normal life (Sleep before 11pm, have time to pursue his own interest)? Yes. Can he get into any ivy? Yes if he is lucky.

what's yr definition of top tier ? is berkeley counted as one ? i know every year many students got into berkeley.

we tried Barun academy in the summer before the SAT test. my kid got around almost 2000 for the assessment and the practice did help him to get consistent into the 2200-2400 area. and this program is not as intense as some other program (e.g. elite) and it fits his need well.
