That's true. Either way it's unfortunate for them b/c they lose no matter what. Major loss if they kept it on the market the way things are now, also will incur losses renting. It's a gamble no matter what.

There's just one problem with your post. You're making assumptions about what the seller put down. They could have paid cash for the place for all you know, or put a big chunk down on the home. They may not be losing anything at all renting it out. It's easy to throw numbers out there, but...
