    New swimming pool regulation

The warm weather means my 5yr old is asking to go to the swimming pool every day. But all 3 of Quail Hill pools are closed with what seems to me a bogus excuse. The claim is that there is some new Federal regulation to prevent entrapment by the pool drains. Is this true or is HOA is trying...

    Blackout

There was a fairly lengthy blackout in Quail Hill on Saturday night, about 3 hours from ~8PM. Haven't seen any news or explanations -- will So Cal Edison compensate us for the missed prime time entertainment? I did learn something new -- Mario Kart on my kids' Nintendo DS is FUN!

I got a speeding ticket this morning...

This thread + both myself and my wife getting speeding tickets within 2 weeks + well known budget problems = there must be a directive to issue more speeding tickets to raise revenue. My wife was in tears yesterday because she missed my son's pick up from school because of the cop on 133 giving...

    Better Low Tax Countires?

It is impossible to claim that one is better than the other. It is just what it is, small government is not possible in the country the size of US, not because it is too large to govern for a small government, but because the gap between individual effort to change anything and the impact it...

The government has a great opportunity with these low treasury rates to...

because one 2 failed treasury auctions will mean the end of US of A as we've known it since 1913. Not a joke.

    Better Low Tax Countires?

The only country like this of any size is Switzerland, and it is due to most decisions being taken via referendum. Swiss Federal Government is tiny.

Any plans for when you get laid off?

First, most guys "retired" from our joint look happier than those still working. Second, If you don't make drastic changes every 5 years in your life, you brain turns into wax. I would ride a motorcycle to Ushuaia, Argentina...

    Shady Canyon

I don't know. I ride the mountain bike around there (don't tell TIC) and the whole thing just doesn't look more appealing that Quail Hill... (unfinished homes may play a part). "Spec homes" are spec'd from the same fake Spanish colonial catalog as every other Irvine home. So you have more space...

    My experience of social reform.

He probably stole it from: "When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -- Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Is the US too big to fail?

As much as the oranges and chairs arithmetic is entertaining, it misses the point. The point of inflation and money supply is in regulating the value of fixed income savings and credit -- the intertemporal exchange rate between 10 oranges now and 10 oranges in 10yrs time. You need fiat...

    Fires

Could see the flames in the distance from Quail Hill after dark, seems to have subsided, at least as far as I can see from here. Irvine is safe, stuff like thing doesn't happen here... ...Right? Driving along 133 to Laguna Beach today, if the fire gets...

A sneek peek of what will really become of the "Great Park" courtesy of Ken Block Racing

I would give my pinky to get this done. Alas, it is impossible because of tree huggers and nimby owners. Well, given how fcuked the soil is at the site already, tree huggers may be appeased by planting a few trees somewhere, but the second problem is insurmountable given the yuppie/family...

Has anyone here ever driven across America?

Made 2.5 round-trips (all 10-15yrs ago). One had to be in 2.5 days (LA-NY) -- not fun. One was using driveaway -- people move across the country, you drive their car for free. Can get a nice car, and the return trip is not a problem. You get ~10 days to drive across, plenty enough...
