what is a CAT 5E plug?

This is totally different than the paying for CAT5e drops, which you can use good wifi as an alternative with barely any negatives.  When it comes to structural/drywall, I wouldn't mess with the headache post-close to save $4000.  Instead, I would recommend doing hardwood post-close and save...

what is a CAT 5E plug?

Now I really think you live in Hidden Canyon lol.  $10k for 100 recessed LED lights is $100 each, which is not bad imo.  I paid $125 each to retrofit my old house granted we only did about 10.  I might also add that we had to retrofit because our original permit required CFL lights like the...

what is a CAT 5E plug?

That indeed sounds pricey but how many total lights is that? I got 4 rooms upgraded with 4 lights each so total 16 lights for $3440 from the builder.

what is a CAT 5E plug?

You are right the poster asked for opinions, which both eyephone and I gave.  The difference is I didn't start mocking his point of view no matter how asinine I find his lack of understanding regarding network delivery methods affecting perceived streaming performance.  If you have a great wired...

what is a CAT 5E plug?

Actually your jab had far less in common with the recessed lighting example you are trying to lead on about.  You were making a blanket assumption that the whole world thinks exactly like you do and you automatically assess their priorities to line up with yours.  You think it's a nice feature...

what is a CAT 5E plug?

Ok I'll bite - I ignored your jab the first time around.  Have you ever tried personally comparing back to back the benefits of running your video on wired networking vs wifi?  Because I sure have and like I already stated, I can run 3 concurrent streams of 4k video on 3 separate computers over...

what is a CAT 5E plug?

Lol I dropped out some of the quotes it was starting to look like a Russian nesting doll.  Again it depends on the quality of the router.  I was concerned about that but the provider's router was surprisingly good and I'm picky enough to test all my devices every few days.  Had it not been...

what is a CAT 5E plug?

Correct.  Just make sure you have the ports all plugged in correctly at the comm closet.

what is a CAT 5E plug?

Most consumer grade routers only have 4 ethernet ports so you need to split some of those ports with a switch.  I have 1Gbps internet and split into a 24 port enterprise switch I still get mid 900Mbps wired performance from my devices.  For wifi devices, the highest I've seen is close to...

what is a CAT 5E plug?

Half of mine have them, the other half have wifi.  Some you need to buy an extra dongle to get the 5e jack, which is the case with my Samsung.  The builder is painting a very general picture, because there's a lot of variability in what they are saying.  The quality of your wifi router comes...

what is a CAT 5E plug?

If you use wifi then the extra ones I wouldn't get them - esp if they cost $$$.  I got them free in each room from my builder so I took it.  They are much more reliable than wifi in general terms, but not worth builder prices if you are paying.

what is a CAT 5E plug?

It's an ethernet cable classification.  CAT 5e will get you up to 1GBe network connection.  You only need one wherever a TV is placed if you are using Smart TV's that need internet.  Otherwise I'd say coaxial connections are more important, esp if you are planning on getting Cox.

Rancho Mission Viejo/ Yorba Linda/Rancho Cucamonga?

IIRC in her initial post she was presented with a disclosure prior to signing the sales contract stating there are pcb and tce around the former El Toro base.  Then I pointed her towards your environmental hazards thread for even more goodies...

Rancho Mission Viejo/ Yorba Linda/Rancho Cucamonga?

Ok that changes a lot of things.  You could consider Brea, Yorba Linda, and Diamond Bar, but it will still be about an hour both ways.  However the last new builds by Lennar  in Diamond Bar sold out a year or so ago.  I drove both the 60 and 10 freeways for years when I was commuting westward...

Rancho Mission Viejo/ Yorba Linda/Rancho Cucamonga?

I grew up in Diamond Bar which is very close to Yorba Linda and Chino Hills.  I have various friends who still live in both places and wouldn't hesitate to suggest either.  But this is where I'd have to ask you where you plan to work, because both are way too far (traffic wise) to Irvine. ...

    First Time HomeBuyer Needs Advice

I second USCTrojan's advice on securing your financing first and narrowing down a price range.  After that it really depends if you are buying a resale or new construction.  On the new builds you need to bring an agent on your first physical visit to get a split of the rebate from the builder...

Recs for electrician to install a 240v/NEMA 14-50 outlet

That would suck if SCE put that restriction.  The AQMD one surely doesn't and that's the only way I would put in the 240v charger.  Paying additional $550 to have an "electrician" do it and then receiving a rebate for $400 doesn't make a lot of sense.  I'd rather do it myself and not go for the...

    Opus at Beacon park

Well if we are to believe Irvine Water District, those contaminated wells are supposedly "only used for irrigation".  My question is if we spray liberally over our lawn, and then the sun causes excess drops to evaporate....hmm isn't that breathing in TCE vapors???  Is that supposed to make us...

Recs for electrician to install a 240v/NEMA 14-50 outlet

ChargePoint sent me an offer for a $400 rebate through SCE. I'm still contemplating on whether to get a L2 charger or not. So far we can get by with just an overnight L1 charge and besides I still dont have my 240V outlet (which is why I was lurking here :)) Oh I see I get you.  I was...
