What are your predictions for 2008?

Someone asked about the percentage of the MD, Pharm.D, DDS (or DMD)? I don't have exact numbers, but can confidently say that there are not lots. Each school cranks out only about 100 graduates per year, on average. Some schools crank out as much as 200 students per year. On the other extreme...

    Superficial Christmas Gift Questions

I think Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre, Girard Perregaux, and Patek Phillippe are all great. They are all great time pieces with great movements. Esthetically is important (to me at least) so I would go for the Jaeger LeCoultre. I would definitely avoid Mont Blanc and Cartier. Nothing wrong...

Seeking Financial Advices-Converting 401k to IRA then to Roth IRA

I converted my 401K to IRA was because my former company 401K had a huge maintenant fee (I think it was 1% or could be 2%). If you are happy with the return on your 401K and if it has a low maintenant fee, you might just want to leave it alone then.

    Does Irvine feel wealthy?

Being wealthy is having the ability to make choices. Often, choices are tied to financial freedom. In this context, I would guess that most people in Irvine are not wealthy. How often does one hear others saying something like, " I want to go to Mexico for a bit of R&R"? What prevents them...

    US global income tax

Win,

You probably are right about the stem cell research. There were technicalities, which I have no clues about. I read the article at least 1 year ago so I don't remember much details. My point was about the "reverse brain drain."

    US global income tax

tour,

The global income tax makes no sense to me. I think you ought to go to the American Church in the 7th arrond. I am sure other Americans living in Paris would have the same questions and concern as you. I think they can give you some pointers. Also, I am sure that there are...

Live, work (2 jobs) and play in Irvine...

Pater,

I wonder the same thing. It does not make sense to me how these people can afford all these expensive homes. I have a highschool friend who now currently owns three homes: one in Apple Valley, one ine Irvine's Westpark, and one in Corona. The one in Corona she just bought...

    Leaving LA/OC soon...

Reason,

South Coast does have a good selection (store variety) and is clean. But the shopping experience is very much "American" shopping experience. Rue St Honore is a pretty tony place and the shopping experience is different there. I would never stop into the Hermes store at...

    Leaving LA/OC soon...

Reason,

I think we hijack this thread. For shopping, Try Frommer's "Born to Shop Paris". It is helpful. Big department stores: Le Bon Marche, La Fayette, Printemps have everything under the sun. I think the smaller boutique stores that are fun to explore. Marais has funky stuffs...

    Leaving LA/OC soon...

Reason,

You are funny. Spring is spring time in Paris. Really, Paris weather is so unpredictable. I would say late April to early June would be the best time to visit Paris. It does rain occasionally but not for long. Two weeks is a good amount of time to explore Paris. You will...

    Leaving LA/OC soon...

Tour,

I am curious as to where you can get 2/2 for 300K euros. 7th arron is one of the more expensive ones. For 300K, it will get you a studio, if I am not mistaken. There are lots of Americans in that area. In particular, Rue du Bac is quite nice and expensive, my favorite place in...

    Career Choices

I have to chime in for this one. I just recently graduated with a graduate degree. I put in 5 years after I got my BS (no pun intended there). So one would say that, I am disciplined enough to went through so much schooling etc. I think there are many reasons and factors going into the...

    Prenuptial - good or bad?

It is a good idea. It does not sound very romantic but it protects both parties. It might be difficult to bring up the subject and sign the papers etc. But once you are married and madly in love, those papers don't mean much. Those papers will mean lots if you two have to divorce each other...

Laguna Crossing & Orchard Hills Postponed to 2009

"From bkshpr's previous posting, TIC and builders are holding off on constructions until the market recovers. And that is 2009-2010. "

I am assuming that they hold off the construction because they will not get the asking prices. If they were to price them right, people...

    3000 The Plaza---Good Buy??

No_Such_Reality,

It is the Aqua Vista (Little Italy, San Diego). Lots of units are currently listed at much lower than they were during the peak. Some units have gone down by 100K if not more.

    3000 The Plaza---Good Buy??

IrivineRenter,

I used to have the price sheet for this development. I think it was something in the low 1K per month. That was for the cheapest unit. I did not see any in the 2K. I think the highest HOA for this development I saw was 1.8K/month.
