What makes our dollar appreciate or depreciate?

Put a picture of a pretty woman in a bikini on it and I will appreciate the dollar a lot more.

HOLY SMOKES : Did i read this right? Dow below 10,000 S&P;1,100 Nasdaq 1500. Is this possible by October?

Also be careful with allocations with 2X ETFs. Don't be lulled in thinking you only have a 10% allocation if you have 10% of your folio in DGP - you're being hit with twice the volatility so you essentially have a 2x weighting.

Should I cut loss at 20% on my non-financial related stocks or keep them for better days?

Don't be knife catchers. We spend a lot of time laughing about all the fools who tried to flip some houses last spring when it seemed so obvious to many of us housing was going down. Stock market is nowhere so obvious, but there's no sign of an uptrend here. Why not wait till an uptrend can be...

Also, congrats to Irvine2010. This is really getting dicey though. I've been short since July - I lost a lot of my gains because there just was so much whipsawing that I ended up covering my shorts with bad timing. This market is tiring. If the house revisits this like 2 days for now...

    Gold

I agree with Awgee here, nobody should give a sh* about what gold does tomorrow. Maybe a bunch of buyers will show up next week, maybe not. What's needed for gold is a slow, steady influx of buyers, and that takes time. Having gold double overnight then crash back down the next day would...

Now would be a good time to get out of WaMu

This is going to sound disingenious, since I'm the OP here, but I still have accounts at WaMu. I just made sure that I kept the money flowing out (paying bills early, etc.) so that the balance was low. Long-term (aka within a year) I'll still open accounts somewhere else. They got bought by...

    R.I.P. WaMu

Now would be a good time to get out of WaMu

Well there we have it. The death of Wamu. "JPMorgan Chase acquired the banking operations of Washington Mutual Bank in a transaction facilitated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. All depositors are fully protected and there will be no cost to the Deposit Insurance Fund...

Now would be a good time to get out of WaMu

Well they WERE lower to day before the announcement. I think the short rule has had far more impact on markets than the bailout is. It's the same thing that happened July 16th (and somehow I got suckered in it twice :-( ). The short rule put a gun to the head of many heavily short...
