    Bloodbath in Coto de Caza

So, the husband and I have been underwhelmed with the security provided by the Coto gate in the past. On any random weekend we could drive up to the gate with a printed MLS listing and gotten right through. So we planned to do this a couple weekends back when my brother and SIL were in town to...

    Portola Springs or Woodbury?

Endangered you say? That's what they want you to believe! <img src="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef01156f3b06ee970c-800wi" alt="" />

How do you have kids here?

That game room is a beautiful use of an elongated room. I love unusual spaces especially cozy ones.

    Upcoming Dinner A'Fare Trip

Thanks for the updates everyone. I made the pasta primavera the other night and my husband said it was his favorite along with the pulled pork sandwiches from March event. Those little sausage pieces ended up being pretty tasty in the veggie and marinara sauce mixture. And the penne pasta was...

Swine Flu Masks - Who here wears them?

All good points. I think one reason the death rate has been so low to date is the very proactive steps taken by the Mexican government in terms of minimizing the spread of the virus. Closing schools, shuttering restaurants, being very transparent with the number of confirmed sick and deaths vs...

    Upcoming Dinner A'Fare Trip

Made the chicken parm last week and it was tasty even though I didn't read the directions closely enough and baked uncovered vs. covered for several minutes. D'oh! Making the Pasta Primavera tonight. Definitely looking forward to some of the more unique meals later this week or next as...

    Portola Springs - Los Arboles

I should have guessed. It was a notable omission on your otherwise comprehensive list.

Swine Flu Masks - Who here wears them?

Hahahaha Starbucks. That is funny since you go typically go there specifically to drink something. Did they bust a little hole in their mask for the straw? Dr Sanjay Gupta from CNN said a couple weeks back that the virus is certainly small enough to pass through the mask but that it could...

Swine Flu Masks - Who here wears them?

I know they aren't called swine flu masks... :) Just curious... and I want to do my first poll. When saw several people wearing flu masks at the airport on our way to Hawaii in April but much fewer on our flight back and this weekend at LAX. Is anyone here wearing them?

    Portola Springs - Los Arboles

Weird. I have seen stuff like that occasionally in older remodeled homes back East where they retrofit HVAC systems and they need space for ducts or move/add staircases. But I haven't seen it in new construction. At least you have a proper place for Harry Potter to sleep should he visit...

    Ladera Ranch

Serious ouch. We have a couple of friends that have homes in Ladera that bought in 2005-6. They can't be happy to hear stuff like that.

    Au pair?

Yep, the 10k is really just the salary. Every family would have their own unique room & board expenditures depending on their circumstances.

Seriously WTF is wrong with the OC Register?

The photography is usually on par with the quality of the writing I find. My favorite photo expose from a few months ago was about what really goes on in the woods of Coto. It turns out - wait for it - kids hang out there and drink water, soda and EVEN beer in them there woods. They had about 20...

    Au pair?

I wasn?t going to respond since I don?t even have kids yet but since you aren?t being overwhelmed with responses here? In the DC area where I'm from this seems to be a more popular option. We even have a friend that places au pairs in people's homes (I think just in the DC area). As a result she...

Seriously WTF is wrong with the OC Register?

That's interesting. I wonder why this effect is so much more noticeable in a paper like the OC Register vs. a Washington Post or even LA Times. Did it just have less far to fall? Was the Register ever a "real" paper? It reminds me of a high school paper - only it comes out more often.

Seriously WTF is wrong with the OC Register?

The online comments are brutal but that is par for the course on the Register site. If they didn't creep me out I'd feel sorrier for them.
