Hi nude and trooper, thanks for the chatroom greet. My internet connection here in our OC apartment stinks, I can't send.

So what will you buy and how much will you spend when it's your time to buy???

A newer, 2600-3300 sq ft, two story with a finished basement and heated garage on 2.5 acres in Evergreen, CO, budget ~600k; very similar to the house we sold in Conifer, CO two years ago. We will also buy a beater in Irvine or somewhere in OC to have a place to live during the week and on...

Tonight's "The Big Idea" - Lowered Expectations with Jim Cramer

I started my new job in Huntington Beach three weeks ago and the most common thing people have spoke to me about, as well as the hallway chatter, is housing and have I bought a house yet. I agree with IR that the general public does not have a grasp of what is to come. I would guess 70% of...

    Interest Rates

Today Wells topped 10% for their 30-yr, non conforming (10.061%). Nothing Earth shattering other than this is the first double-digit mortgage rate from a mainstream bank I have seen in my adulthood. I am expecting other banks to eventually follow Well's lead in mortgage rates.

Wish me luck! I'm heading to Houston....

bix, how goes the clean-up? Is your brother's house recognizable? Is Kemah functional? Things in Clear Lake are improving but there are still hanging traffic lights and cops directing traffic at major intersections without power. Our yard guys came by this weekend and hopefully the...

    Interest Rates

I thought an interest rate thread may become relevant given Well Fargo is showing 30-yr fixed jumbos at 9.176% (hat tip to Calc. Risk). BofA is quoting 7.9% for the same. Is this the hammer that will drive down prices if everyone follows Wells? Given that IR postulates home prices...

The neighbors are at it again...

Back in college I usually took this sort of thing as a challenge. Made for interesting looks the next morning.

The SEC has <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080919/ap_on_bi_ge/sec_short_selling">temporarily banned</a> short selling of 800 financial stocks. Whoa

bix, That is great you are coming out to help your brother. - Bring all the tools you will need with you, Home Depot, Lowes, etc are running out, or have run out, of things you may need. Building supplies are running in short supply and getting expensive. Bring tarps, a hammer...

Hurricane Ike, Texas is going to get it

That sucks bix, sorry. Other than the Galveston area and areas immediately next to Galveston bay (like Kemah and Clear Lake Shores), flooding was not the largest issue with Ike. The wind did most of the damage to buildings and the power grid. Many people today are going on their third day...

Hurricane Ike, Texas is going to get it

Before and after pics. It was a long night and morning. The worst thing we lost is a couple of rows of shingles. Winds in this area were 115mph. The hurricane eye passed direct over us. We had about 2 hrs of strange calm between when the eye front passed over and the back end hit us. The...

Hurricane Ike, Texas is going to get it

Thanks bix, we are at 24 ft and not in the 100-yr flood plain. I am more concerned with the wind and the six, 50ft pine trees on my property. The house is build to hurricane standards, so other than shingles and the single pane glass not too worried about the structure.
