    Kitchen contractor?

We used Sol Construction when we did a major remodel last year (Aaron and Josh are the owners). They were excellent.  No day laborers, fair pricing and on schedule. We did not use them for our kitchen but they do kitchens (we went more custom with that).  But they did 3 bathrooms (everything...

    Irvine vs. Yorba Linda

Are you really going to drive from YL then to Irvine and then to Burbank for possible future child care?  That seems like a lot of driving.  If you were really serious about doing this, I'd do a dry run everyday in the morning and at night to see how stressful that might be- and I'd do it for...

Cheapest home in Turtle Ridge's Summit

The Arcade house has a REALLY bad floor plan.  It's split level.  If you have kids, thinking about kids, have older parents visiting, that house would be horrible.

    Zero lot line homes

I have never experienced zero-lot lines until I moved to California.  When I was looking at buying a house, I never thought of the issues one might have if you purchased such a home.  If you have a zero-lot line house, what are the conditions to build onto your house? I rented a house in...

Tell me about Carlsbad, Calfornia - Irvine vs. Carlsbad

I have been to Carlsbad a couple of times- it just didn't do anything for me, even with the cheaper homes.  Besides, if I were to go the the "city", I'd rather go to LA than San Diego. It seems the area also lacks job diversity, which is especially important for 2-couple professionals.

    Sleeping arrangements

I agree with Lucy. I have 2 kids- one I co-slept with and the other not.  I cherish those memories when I co-slept with my baby.  My baby (and me!) slept much better.  They do grow older!

Will prices go down in Quail Hill/Turtle Ridge in the near term?

Good luck with your decision! My question for Laguna Altura- how nice is the "nicest" section of Laguna Altura?  Is there an area as nice as Vicara- or those homes by Standard Pacific in QH (on Ambiance, Retreat, Mosaic, etc)- or is the nicest part similar to the homes on Tapestry?  Just curious

    Current thoughts in 2011...

Playing devil's advocate here- but I always think how easy it will be to sell the house.  I know you may not think the power lines are a deal breaker, but to many it is, and your buyer pool might be much smaller in the event you want to sell a house near power lines. Edited- maybe this should...

Las Ventanas Plans 2+3 vs. Maricopa Plans 1+2

I have not seen these models (and I haven't seen any of Woodbury, Portola Springs), so just looking at the floor plan I was wondering if the Plan 2 Ventanas had a tunnel like feel to it?  It seems like you enter the door only to go down a hallway to get to the main part of the house.  I don't...

    Resale homes vs new construction

Just saw the pics on Redfin.  It's a nice house, but can you imagine keeping those dark floors clean?  Before we bought our house, we were renting a house with dark wood floors.  It was impossible to keep the dust off.  I would clean the floors and literally hours later, with the right light, I...

    Countertops

OKKid- Try baking soda!  I had water stains on my choc brown tops (cambria- same as cesearstone or silestone).  I think the water there must be very hard- lots of calcification.  Anyways, I put a baking soda paste around the area and it soaked up the waterstain.

What kind of home plan do you prefer? (Redux)

One thing I can't stand- when two-story homes have a nook for a dining room instead of a proper dining room with 4 walls.  For example, when one wall of the "dining room" is the staircase leading to the second floor.  I see this in homes with large sq footage too (3400 sq feet), not just smaller...

    Landscaping for a Woodbury SFR

Studio H- Thanks so much for your reply.  You are right- this is an investment that we will be living with for a long time.  We know that it will be more expensive, but hopefully longer lasting, to have the pavers.  Thanks also for the info on the installation of those various pavers.  I didn't...
