    Recommendations for Gardening Service

We can't seem to find someone that meets our basic expectations.  All we really want is: - Bimonthly service (we have hardscape no grass) - Shows up on day/time they said they were going to - Does the work meticulously (all weeding, trimming, flower bed maintenance, etc.) that they signed up...

    Where to buy contemporary planters?

You can try Crate and Barrel:http://www.crateandbarrel.com/outdoor-furniture/garden-and-patio-accessories/1 or West Elm:  http://www.westelm.com/shop/accessories-pillows/planters/?cm_type=gnav

    Hot Garage

Wondering if anyone has any experience adding ventillation to a garage.  Ours gets really hot and there's no opening for any airflow unless the garage door is open or the door to the house.  I'm thinking a small simle rectangular hole with vent cover would work wonders but I'm no expert. Any...

    Car seats and Strollers

We went from the Chicco Keyfit30 to an Evenflo Symphony E3 Convertible to the Recaro Performance Sport Harness to Booster.  The convertible carseats overall tend to be bulky and high because they can be configured to do a lot more than a booster or an infant carseat.  I personally have been very...

    The $100K Club

So I was thinking about the fact that Irvine isn't up there in the rankings and it dawned on me that this might be true because we have a large population of unemployed students in addition to FCB ballers with suitcases.  ;)

Best Strategy for Selling Rental Property

Here's the scenario: Bought a place in 2006 that seems to have finally regained its original value.  It was a primary residence that we have since rented out since we moved away from the area.  We have a tenant in place with a lease until next April (they just moved in about 2 months ago).  We...

    Recommendation - Small Landscaping Job

We have 2 single side by side garages in a newer home.  The center of the driveway has plants in it which we want to replace with flagstone or cement to match the rest of the front landscaping.  The planter box is pretty small (3'x5' or so) but annoying enough to want to get rid of.  Anyone have...

    Furniture store

We got our couches, master bed frame, and crib mattress off the Costco website.  Their customer service and delivery was excellent.  Costco also takes anything back and will come back to pick it up if you're not happy.  I find the quality of their stuff online to be quite good.  Some of the...

    Delima, Delima, Delima

Sounds like you are more than happy with your current living situation (location, amenities etc.)  and that you are making this decision to buy a financial one.  You don't want to miss any potential upside in the RE market and you want your monthly outlay for living to "work for you."  However...

Why is Univ. HS so good?

I can't speak for the UNI of today.  However, I went to UNI in the 90s and now I live in Irvine.  Never thought I would live in Irvine and never thought I would consider putting my children at UNI after what I went through.  College was way easier than high school!  When I was going through...

    Rugs

We have bought many from overstock.com and we love them.  They are good quality and shipping is cheap.

    Homeowner's Insurance

True...sometimes you don't care about that level of customer service if the rates are so much better...  Maybe it is possible to get both.  I should probably be checking into lower rates myself to see how much of a "premium" I am paying for this customer service with State Farm. However, what I...

Moving to Irvine....Ranch Area within El Camino Real?

The first two areas that came to mind were the older parts of Northwood (those that feed into Santiago Hills Elementary) and parts of Westpark (the newer parts that feed into Plaza Vista).

    Homeowner's Insurance

We use Rebecca Higgs at State Farm as well for auto and homes.  Rates are decent, but more importantly we appreciate the customer service.  If I ever needed documentation, answers to specific questions, etc. her team was on it.  I would highly recommend.

Need References - Need to paint garage door

Thanks for the references.  Wasn't clear in my original post...I am the landlord :).  For those who have painted a sectional garage, any pointers for making sure the gaps between the sections don't collect paint and screw up after the paint dries?

Need References - Need to paint garage door

Our HOA has informed us that we need to paint the 2 car sectional garage for our rental condo.  Any references for a handyman/painter that would take of this small job would be appreciated.

    Realistic Childcare Options in Irvine

Thanks all for the replies.  We have decided to put ourselves on a bunch of waitlists and wait it out.  We're in no rush and given your feedback about babies getting sick, I think it's better to wait for the right place.  In the meantime, we will have to find other activites for baby to mingle...

    Realistic Childcare Options in Irvine

We are working parents of a 9 month old.  He is at our home with a nanny all day.  She's great and helps out with housework, but her child development skills are limited.  We are getting to the point of wanting him to have more interaction with other babies and exposure to the outside world. ...

Please help me buy a place before I move to Irvine

I would second Woodbury Place because it offered detached townhomes, 2 car garage, private washer/dryer, nice pool/gym.  Look out for lease specials for particular floor plans etc.  We didn't want to rent either a couple of years ago, but so glad we did while we were waiting for the right home...
