    Laguna Niguel

I know.  This slipped past me for a while.  Paying attention to work too much today.. Yes, we looked in Aliso too and had an offer on a few houses before settling on Laguna Niguel.  Aliso is close to Irvine but I don't like how they have that huge shopping center where parking is always a...

    Laguna Niguel

I sold my house in Irvine and moved to Laguna Niguel (south Laguna Niguel near Dana Point) four years ago.  I am very happy I did.  Here is what I like about Laguna Niguel:  1) There is not a lot of traffic (reminds me of how Irvine traffic was 14 years ago). 2) Infrastructure is good.  There...

    Grid Panels

A three car garage with racks will allow you to fly.....or set up a mini home theater with walls since we generally don't have basements here..... When I was up in Minneapolis for work and visited a co-worker, I asked to see his basement.  It was 1,600SF of concrete heaven.  I just imagined...

    Grid Panels

I  like it!  I think I am going to have to do this.  I am a handy guy with lots of tools (used frequently before the kids era of my life) so it will be a DIY project.

    New house + solar panel

How much power does each panel produce?  I see some houses with a small grid of panels and others with tons.  Just wondering what a 2KW setup looks like.

    Lighting

I have those 65 watt bulbs and they do the job for smaller rooms and work just fine.  For brighter bulbs I get the 100 wall equivalent ones at Costco (17W).  Those are very bright and are over 1100 lumens from what I recall.  I have them in my kitchen (X5) and they are very bright.  It feel nice...

    House Cleaning Service

Wow, I have a 5 bed, 4 bath home and I pay $120 every three weeks.  $70 is a steal.

SCE and SDGE TOU (time of use) electric rates vs. tiered rates

I am with SDGE (south county) and they are allowing me to go TOU if I want.  We are getting a plug in Prius so not sure if I will get the EV TOU plan from them or not. I am not ready to go solar.  I think the technology needs a few more 'breakthrough's' or cost reductions before it becomes...

    7 passenger cars

I had a Sequoia, they actually seat 8.  :)  You are right they are a very reliable car.  Never had a major problem with it.  It just kept going.  I sold it at 160K miles because it was 10 years old and the wife wanted a newer car. I currently have the Lexus GX470 (new model is the GX460 (4.6L)...

    Lighting

I have not seen them do door locks yet but they do have two (non subscription) web cams that use the free software as well.  There is a regular resolution cam and an HD (720p) cam which I have heard are decent.  I have not bought the cams yet but will soon.  I am waiting for my Foscam camera to...

    Lighting

I have LED and automation and did it myself. I installed LED bulbs in the regular receptacles instead of the full modules since LED technology is still in it's early stages and the technology is getting better and better all the time.  I don't want to be stuck with modules that are considered...

To EV or not to EV, that is the question

After hearing all your guys stories and doing my own 'obsessive' research, even if this 90 mile round trip commute job does not pan out, I may still go the EV/PIH route for myself.  I was originally thinking about a 1-2 year old Lexus GS350 for the next car (in about 2 more years) but now...

To EV or not to EV, that is the question

This is a lot of really good info for people thinking about taking the jump to PIH or EV.  I seem to be leaning toward the Prius PIH due to the range with the gas engine. For those on EV, have you noticed a large decline in range over time with battery degradation?

To EV or not to EV, that is the question

I worked the numbers for mileage overage against the LEAF's lease promotion and the numbers still work out as an advantage if we don't plan on keeping the car long term.  I am also seriously looking into getting a used (1-2 year old) EV/HPI car since I don't like to buy new and the stickers stay...

To EV or not to EV, that is the question

That is true regarding the mileage.  One of the 'perks' to be requested before taking the job would be an assigned EV or 'plug in' parking spot to charge at work. The volt is an option for a flexible solution just as the plug in Prius would be.  Would not mind going all electric if the parking...

To EV or not to EV, that is the question

So there is the possibility that a person in our household may take a job that is 45 miles from home one way.  Based on that, we are considering an EV or plug in hybrid for two purposes: 1) Lower cost of fuel (3 miles per KWh @ ~$0.16 KWh vs. $4.00 gal gas) 2) Green/White solo carpool sticker...

SCE and SDGE TOU (time of use) electric rates vs. tiered rates

So which is better for the majority of people where everyone is gone during the day (work/school)? I was looking at my electric bill and it is very contradictory.  Although I am ranked in the category of the most efficient households based on electricity usage for size of home I have against...

    Is this infestation?

It looks like your garage door motor just needs to be adjusted so the 'closed' stop point is a little lower.  It looks like the rubber seal on the bottom where there is no gap is not compressed at all which shows you have some 'room' still to adjust.
