I was referring to the specific communities the OP cited, as pretty much someone vouched for all of them.

Congrats!  It's not often you see people retired by 50 out here.  Very admirable, and I hope retirement is everything you hoped it would be :)

Based on the diversity of answers here, I'm going to say that no matter which option you go with, you should be in pretty good shape overall.  :)

It's impossible to safeguard against every possible situation out there.  All we can really do is have a reasonable plan and hope it pans out.  Try to save a reasonable percentage of your income over a period of time (20%?), allocate some money for entertainment/pleasure, and go from there.

I'd say all we can really do is plan and hope for the best. I do think we will all get some form of social security, just perhaps a somewhat reduced benefit compared to now (say, 75% of what we are currently projected to receive). Historically, the stock market has returned close to 10%...

Congratulations!  Which community did you buy in? I would upgrade all of those things through the builder.  You can do other things, like flooring, paint, etc outside the builder, but I?d do all of the above things with the builder.

Yeah, I think the LaClaire was listed for close to 1.1mil for the view lot.

The neighborhood specifically does have a very peaceful feel to it.  I saw they charged around a 150k premium for the view homes that overlook Portola Springs road.

The builder I am using has told me they will pay the cost of any kind of rate lock extension fees for delays, as long as I use their preferred lender.

Cadence Park looks quite promising, but they better hope that cemetery doesn't make its way back there...
