IUSD does away with traditional math path

There are 4 criteria that will be looked at for 6th graders to get into the "enhanced math" path, which is essentially doing 3 years of math in 2 years: Student must have 3 of the 4.  Apparently if you don't have 3 of the 4, you can appeal: 1) Student must have an A in every report card period...

IUSD does away with traditional math path

I also attended the Vista Verde session and attended the break-out session for the high school group.  At one point it was a very heated discussion with one parent extremely upset that in his daughter's Northwood High School Honors Geometry class there apparently are no books and that the kids...

Anyone knows about a good summer chess camp for kids?

We get magazines occasionally on City Of Irvine activities.  There should be a summer one coming out soon.  If I recall correctly- there might be a chess camp at University Park.

    Orchard Hills VS Hidden Canyon?

Hidden Canyon.  Orchard Hills and all developments north of Irvine Center Drive feel like the boonies to me.

Newer Irvine listings with crazy WTF asking prices from equity sellers

I can't stand when the dining room is carpeted- and when there are several different flooring options on the first floor (carpet, tile wood).

    Public or Montessori Kindergarten

Bones- What month is your kid's birthday?  If your kids's bday is in the late fall I can see your reasoning somewhat. My son has a classmate who is born in April of the previous year and was redshirted.  He clearly looks so much older than my son who was born in May - 13 months later.  The...

    Blaze Pizza - University Center

I was at Blaze the other day and saw that Slapfish is going there.  Has anyone been to the Laguna location?  Is it good?

    Is Harvard Unfair to Asian-Americans?

The Harvard website shows class of 2018 at 20%- so stagnant but still pretty good considering Asians make up only 6% of US populationhttps://college.harvard.edu/admissions/admissions-statistics

    Is Harvard Unfair to Asian-Americans?

Harvard has 20% Asians and has 47% minorities overall.  I don't think they are being unfair.

    Issues with dark wood flooring

I like the one on the right too.  To me the other one is too much of a contrast.

    Issues with dark wood flooring

That's why I am not a fan of super dark floors.  You never saw such dark floors until mid 2000s. To me they were/are very trendy and now the trend is going away from that.  Kind of like having one of those honey colored kitchen cabinets in the early/mid 2000s.  I'd go for something more timeless...

    Issues with dark wood flooring

I personally don't like the upkeep of very dark floors.  I hate seeing a layer of dust hours after it's been clean.

    Deciduous Tree

I have 2 of these in my front yard.  They are beautiful when they are blooming, when the leaves change color, and the branch formation is pretty when the leaves are gone.  They aren't high maintenance at all. Western Redbud Cercis occidentalis

What you think of these Great room design?

Not very "great room" to me either.  Even that Magnolia home isn't very "great".

What is the % of CA residents at Berkeley or UCLA?  Do they make that 75% quota by having 90%+ at the other campuses that Non-CA residents don't care about?

Kochee Kabob House - University Center

I think Kochee is owned by an Afghani guy.  Last time I was there, they had more spices (like cumin).  Food is ok.  I don't like their rice.  But then again, I think most of the Persian restaurants don't make the chelo rice as good as homemade.  In Irvine, I like House of Kebab.  I don't like...

    White granite options

I concur with SoCal.  Granite is so 2006- so if you like it, keep pattern small.  I like WTTCHMN's link to Ceasarstone.  Also, Cambria is another quartz line that has marble like looks.
