Makes sense. It probably makes more financial sense, though, to sell the $700,000 house and buy 2 $350,000 houses elsewhere and rent them for $2000 per month each. 

Reducing costs only increases profits in this scenario.  Supply and Demand pretty much dictate prices here.  Certain corporations are controlling some of that. Creating new business friendly areas out in cheaper areas might help reduce demand here.  Better mass transit options might also help...
