Anyone know where to get the new Pfizer booster ?

Not a doctor, not an "expert", not here to tell anyone what to do with their bodies, just a generally healthy middle aged citizen. I got the first two shots around the delta wave. I'll never get another. I'll never let someone force my children to get one while they're too young to have...

    Work in office or remote?

You know... I get the sense that "news" these days, tech.co not being an exception, is often more editorial, agenda, and cherry picked fact driven. Sure, there's probably more than zero people who decided to buy a house with the expectation of permanent WFH life who are now finding their...

    Economy and Climate Change

Ask AI what a woman is. Ask it if men can get pregnant. That thing just cuts & pastes the things it's programmers feed into it. Don't be surprised when it echoes it's programmer's beliefs. Wouldn't it be amusing if some of the first jobs AI replaces is those of it's programmers?

    Economy and Climate Change

Yes, we should listen to a person's argument, even if they work in an industry that we don't like or that may make them biased. I'm not saying agree with them blindly. But give all sides a chance to make their case, look at all the data, hear all the arguments, don't be afraid to question your...

    Economy and Climate Change

Someone fact check the fact checkers. What makes them the arbiters of truth? Just because they can do ad hominem attacks we're supposed discredit anyone they suggest? Does working in the oil and gas industry mean everything that person says is untrustworthy? Does the lack of a degree in...

    Economy and Climate Change

I can't speak for FL, but in CA the insurance companies aren't able to justify the risk of writing policies for the premium they're allowed to collect. They're squeezed on the revenue side by the CA insurance commissioner who is not allowing them to raise premiums enough. They're squeezed on...

    Economy and Climate Change

It IS an emergency and you HAVE to obey *THROWS TANTRUM* The only way to fix it is to be afraid, hand your rights and check books over to the government. They're the experts, they know better than us, and they truly care about each and every one of us. Let me break it down for everyone in...

Retractable screen for bypass sliding doors

Seems in the range. I think I paid $6,100 for two 4 panel doors, so $3,050 roughly per door. The only savings for the 2nd door was on shipping the product - almost the same cost to ship 2 screens as 1. So yeah, $2,500 sounds about right for a 3 panel door.

Retractable screen for bypass sliding doors

2nd'ing the Screen Mobile recommendation. Matt is the franchise owner for the geographical region I live in (South OC). He was very helpful in the selection process and his installers were outstanding. I would not recommend the Zig Zag product due to my negative experience with it on my large...

How high will mortgage rates climb in the next 36 months?

As with most questions of why is X so much cheaper in [Not California], because of CA regulations on X. Not gonna google for you this time.

    Adios Affirmative Action

No doubt. Personally I think our efforts our better served by protecting academic meritocracy than trying to compensate for unavoidable inequality. There's room for both, but maybe it's wrong reward and punish students based on their race.

    Masks?

I wish we as a country would do this less to each other and I wish it wouldn't get the number of eyeballs and sometimes visceral reactions that it gets. I'm definitely guilty of getting sucked into these types of discussions as evidenced by my previous posts, so I include myself in this wish to...

    Masks?

I'm ashamed to admit that I've forgotten more than once that these masks/covid conversations never go anywhere. Shame on me for engaging yet again.

    Masks?

The conversation was about yes/no mask today in a hypothetical situation of Zubs and I riding on a bus together. Now you're talking 2019-2022 covid deaths, mask mandates, abortion. JFC. Seems like you just want to argue about things. Not interested.

How about you do the googling for a change? Show me US covid cases and deaths in the last 12 months. Include only deaths where covid is the main cause of death.

    Masks?

    1) Obviously Covid is real. But the wild type strain from 2019/2020 hitting people with no immunity is very different than today's strains and immunity. 2) There's plenty of studies out there that suggest masks do, don't, and might work. Take your pick and go with it. My point is whether a...
