Wasn't McDonnell too far right for purple Virginia? The Washington Post sure tried their best to highlight his college thesis which espoused ideas that even today's conservatives wouldn't dare touch. I think the whole Deeds campaign was pretty much "McDonnell is a crazy freaky conservative!!!"...

But the "Rush is the leader of the Republicans" theme has been played all year. Palin is even more polarizing than she was in 2008. And everyone knows conservatives have gotten too angry and are turning people off. Yet there was a huge shift of independents towards Republicans last night...

The Fed is supposed to stop buying MBS in Feb. Whether they will or not is debatable. But if they do, who knows where rates will go. I predict a downturn in the economy and another stock market crash will keep rates low in 2010.

Did the POMOs ending yesterday give people the signal to exit today?

I noticed put options shot up on a ton of stocks today out of proportion to today's drops. Market makers pricing in more volatility?

Goldman revised their predicted GDP number down to +2.7%. I think that's a pretty strong sign we're not going to see +3% tomorrow.

Banks getting hammered today(well, a lot of things getting hammered today). Doomers are working themselves into a frenzy. I'm starting to doubt we're going to be able to hit that +3% GDP number this week.

Watch out the next time the stock market tanks. I'm sure there are lots of people not walking away because they believe the media that we're in a v-shaped recovery and the landscape is covered in green shoots. Any inkling that people get about just how big our economic problems are will cause...
