"                                            PUBLIC NOTICE

April 1, 2010


Dear Current Resident:

In compliance with the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) Board of Education policy and Administrative Regulation on the placement of structures on existing sites, we are notifying you of the District?s Solar Photovoltaic Project and the intention to place solar photovoltaic panels at the following locations; College Park Elementary School, Creekside Education Center, IUSD District Office, Early Childhood Learning Center, Irvine High School, Lakeside Middle School, Meadow Park Elementary School, Northwood Elementary School, Northwood High School, Plaza Vista K-8, Rancho San Joaquin Middle School, Santiago Hills Elementary School, Sierra Vista Middle School, South Lake Middle School, Springbrook Elementary School, Stonegate Elementary School, Turtle Rock Elementary School, University High School, Venado Middle School, Vista Verde K-8 and Woodbury Elementary School.  The Solar Photovoltaic Project is anticipated for completion in mid - 2011.

The Solar Photovoltaic Project will save the District $17 million in energy expenses over 20 years.  The Project will also be incorporated into the District?s curriculum where students will utilize internet-based monitoring to track solar energy production and consumption.                                               

Individual sites will be discussed at one of three regional meetings.  Please see the schedule below to determine individual site review times and dates. All interested persons are invited to attend a public meeting and comment on the proposed project. IUSD representatives will be on hand to receive comments.  Meetings will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m.; however, if you are unable to attend this meeting, please forward any comments in writing to Donna Jordan - djordan@iusd.org no later than 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 29th, 2010.

It would be great if this project works out and could save the district millions in the coming years, but with the fiscal climate being what it is and the schools struggling to provide the basic materials, I wonder where they are going to come up with the money to do this.
