New Private High School in Irvine?

Can you post the notice or an image of it? I tried a Google search and also went through "IUSD Today" newsletters but found no info.

Edit: Nevermind. I re-read your post and noticed the key word: "private".

So it looks like it is final--new private high school planned for Stonegate East (SE corner of Portola & Sand Canyon).

Lutheran High gets new home with an Irvine campus

IRVINE - Crean Lutheran High School has found a permanent home in Irvine, with city planners Thursday approving plans for a 15-acre campus that will eventually accommodate 1,200 students.

Irvine planning commissioners unanimously approved the new Crean Lutheran campus to be built on the southeast corner of Portola Parkway and Sand Canyon Avenue, in the Stonegate East area.

The permanent campus will allow Crean Lutheran to move out its temporary home at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church in Woodbridge, as well as leased athletic facilites at Concordia University.

The new campus will also allow Crean Lutheran to expand their student population from a little more than 300 students at their temporary facility, to about 1,200 students once the new facility is fully-built.

Established as a sister school to Orange Lutheran High School, Crean Lutheran also serves as a feeder campus for Concordia University. Crean Lutheran shares its sister campuses focus on state-of-the-art technology, with laptops and wireless connections taking the place of text-books and backpacks.

"We're just very excited to plant permanent roots in the community, which is world renowned for education," said Rick Needham, the school's president and board chairman.

The push to expand into Irvine began more than a decade ago, Needham said, when school leaders realized they had maxed out use of the Orange Lutheran campus, and wanted to open a facility accessible to the expanding south county population.

The land surrounding the campus space is currently vacant, although there are plans to build residential units to the west and south. The area north of the proposed campus is designated as permanent open space, with the 133 toll road located to the east.

Along with 58,000 square feet of classroom space and 40,000 square feet of administrative space, the campus' planned amenities include:

?A 57,000-square-foot performing arts building.

?A 54,000-square-foot gym and sports complex.

?A competition-style swimming pool, lighted tennis courts and a track course.

?A lighted football and soccer field with portable bleachers.

?A three-level parking structure.

?A 60-foot high bell tower.

The campus plan includes 544 parking spaces at final build-out, although city staffers worry that may not be enough to cover demand for popular sporting events such as football or basketball games. To prevent parking from spilling into nearby neighborhoods, city officials are asking school leaders to come up with an alternate plan that could include off-site parking or shuttles.

City planners said the relatively lack of development around the campus would head off the battles with neighbors such as the one that has erupted over an Irvine Unified School District proposal to build a stadium at University High School.

"I don't think we will have the same problems that have emerged at the Turtle Rock site, with the stadium and the other uses," Planning Commissioner Mary Ann Gaido said.

Crean Lutheran officials plan to construct the campus in several phases, with an initial development that could be completed by August allowing the campus to welcome around 600 students.
