Been contemplating writing this for a very long time now; let?s see if I can get it out in one shot.  I have had some quality time with my cousin?s Nexus One a while ago and the experience frankly is still leaving me speechless.  Considering that I use its fraternal twin, the Desire as a daily supplementary device; to leave that kind of impression is no small feat.

Why is it that tech writers, reviewers, Android enthusiasts, hacker and amateurs to this day are still talking about it, demoing apps on it, taking pictures of it and still using a phone that is more than 2-years old?  Because the darn phone is simply that good!

I?ll be lucky if my G-Nex will leave such a legacy behind in the coming years.  But simply put, the phone was ahead and still is ahead of its time.  HTC is smart in resurrecting the ?One? name in hope of re-capturing some of that legacy.  But there isn?t a doubt that the Nexus One and the original Moto Droid was the one, two punch that put Android on the map.

My cousin and countless others on the forums and social networks still rave about the N-1; it?s a topic that brings up countless memories and warm-fuzzy feelings.  It?s a phone that any Android enthusiasts can instantly connect with, and a starting point to almost any conversation.  It?s a phone that is as relevant today as the day it was launch and will still be with us for some time to come.

I really wish they didn't stop putting the optical trackpad (better than the trackball) on Android phones... I realize they think bigger screens obsolesced the need for an alternate navigation method... but sometimes it's easier to use.

I love my optical trackpad, great for surfing the web, and yes, sometimes, when typing I don't want to have to zoom in to insert or correct a word...

oh one more observation...

I have friends who either, economically or by contract are still using their old iPhone 2,3G..?  I find it interesting that they always have to make some comment about how old or slow their old iPhones are; how crappy or how banged up it looks... they all have to point out the fact that you know that they know, they are behind the 8-Ball technology wise...

I absolutely NEVER feel this way about using my Desire, and the people who still rock the Nexus One are not self-conscious about their old technology...

I actually carry a sense of pride, when I break out the HTC; and I would totally be like "Dang Dog" if I see someone break out the N-1...

I don't know, Apple has a way of making you feel totally worthless if you don't have the latest and greatest, while Android just loves you for who you are...

That's not true... I know a few people who wish HTC/Samsung/LG would update them to Gingerbread or ICS... my phone is only 2.2 and it irritates me.

I find people are okay with their older iPhones... with Android there is a lot of 4Gism. :D

There is a lot of news out this afternoon about the Nexus S officially getting ICS...

But... I'm not done with the Nexus One, yet...  The Nexus One been there with the few ROMs that are out there...

I couldn't find any videos of the Nexus One being compared to the iPhone 4S; but the closest thing was the iPhone 4.  Why not..?  I'll do my own comparisons the next time I'm at Best Buy, on Browser speeds and such with my Desire.  I'm willing to bet that a phone that is 2+ years old will indeed keep up..!

In the video below; tested by the iPhone user; concluded that it was a draw... see for yourself...!

Years from now people will still be researching and exploring the Nexus One.  2010 was a blur for our family personally; we were dealing with a 1-year old, and I don't remember much about the entire year except for; diaper changes, strollers and sleepless nights.

I couldn't think of a better way to spend a fantastic, lazy Saturday afternoon other than to make up for lost time by piecing together what happened before and during the launch of the iconic Android.

I typed up this up on Saturday.. and I usually have my laptop when travelling but I'm glad the G-nex can still handle long posts like this.. writing from the Starbucks in Fisherman's Warf..

Have a good day, everyone

I got $160 now saved for the Google Tablet... but I had to go and check to see what is the street price of a Nexus One...  actually very tempted in picking up one of these guys; the average seems to be around $190...

I have no doubt that this would be a collector's item; and the resale price would hold pretty steady around here...  If I find mint condition one that has only been with one owner; with the original box and accessories, than I am sold... sorry Google Tablet...

I know you like "old tech"... but just use that money on the Google Nexus Tablet.

The only good thing about the Nexus One is the trackball, I still wish Android phones had those optical trackpads.
