Ashley just posted this from the Samsung Booth at CES 2012, we've seen transparent displays before... but this is cool...

So, I did get confirmation that the "Model" town is behind the display and not just generated on the screen...

This product looks absurdly dangerous. Almost as bad as putting eye liner on while driving on the 5--the female driver almost side swiped my family in her mercedes as she drove next to me.

We got this announcement today... here is the best response I've read of G+

+Michael Oryl
Do we really need our schools to start issuing text books on a proprietary platform? No, we don't need that. We don't want that. It makes no sense at all.

You want non-paper books? Great. You want multimedia integrated into your textbooks? Fantastic. You want to tie your school to iOS and force your students to purchase an iPad in order to take advantage of the new features and benefits in your textbooks? No way.

Instead, what we need is an open, potentially even web based system. My friend +Philip Berne suggested that just a short while ago on Twitter. It makes sense. HTML5 can do a lot of great things, including multimedia. It also has the benefit of working on many devices. I can see issues with managing subscriptions and purchases, though, since anything on the web is up for grabs. Even without web-based solutions, there are other formats, like EPUB and PDF/A, that could be used safely on many different platforms.

If a child has access to but a single device on most any computing platform (PC, Mac, tablet, smartphone, etc) then he or she would have access to the books needed. With all the fancy additional features not found on paper.

And it would still work on an iPad.

The last thing we want to do latch onto a single hardware platform for our school books, especially when that platform is far from the most affordable. Android powered tablets and simple netbook computers can be had for far less than an Apple iPad.

Access is what's important. Not riding the wave of Apple's amazing success with the iPad.

I can already hear it now... 5+ years from now; my son comes home... Dad..! So... lame dad, my teacher passes out this assignment and my Android Tab couldn't read it... how lame, huh?  She should know by now, that half the class is NOT on iOS...!

ok, son, I'll get the teacher on Video conference right now...!  that is not fair,,!  I still remember the days, when Androids were consider second class citizens... did I ever tell you about the time...

Happy Friday.. been keeping a mental note of emerging smart surface technologies.. some were announced at CES, some really old videos, but still unreleased, and some you can buy today like MS Smart Surface... videos by released date...

I'm totally ready for the day when these little buzzing dudes, fly inside our homes to scan our retinas...

hopefully I won't be on this Earth when they do...

That's crazy.  I wonder if those little things actually have sensors to detect their environment to fly around or if they were just programmed to fly a certain pattern.

Didn't know where to put this...

Do you think RC's cat will care about this...?  That is so bad ass that the thing can dispense treats...  I'm still catching up on my movies... that's that one with people controlling robots... gotta work on that before leaving today...

This is expected as mobile devices become more powerful and I believe every major player is planning on this. The key is how to do the integration seamlessly (Apple?). Also there should not be any wire between the monitor and the phone docking station (Google 60 GHz tech for high speed video transmission). Any way, it is just a matter of time to kiss goodbuy to traditional PCs.

Until smartphones become much much more powerful, this won't be in the near future for PCs.  Google tried it with their Chromebook and it didn't really take off.  Netbooks didn't replace PCs.  Years ago, there was talk that thin clients would replace PCs in the workplace and that didn't happen.  People need powerful PCs with local storage to run their multiple Office apps offline, watch videos, play music, edit media, etc.  One of the main drivers for powerful PCs (desktop/laptops) is gaming.  These phones will never meet the high processing needs of the avid gamer.

I don't know... but future looks a bit scary...
