Christmas wreaths of Balboa Island

Christmas was just around the corner when I visited Balboa Island one morning in early December. I was looking for Christmas decorations, door wreaths in particular, and knew that this island community with wall-to-wall homes would be a good place to start. As I made my way up and down the "gem" streets ? Diamond, Sapphire, Ruby, Topaz ? the wreaths were as varied as the doors on which they hung. From pine branches to woven vines with dried berries and one with bells tied together in the shape of Mickey Mouse. The doors were equally dynamic in color and style, which included beautiful leaded and etched glass and simple wood, painted in a variety of colors.
