Looking for Math and Writing Tutors for 3rd Grader

Our 3rd Grader in Eastwood Elementary has been talking about not having enough academic work to do at school. She had had a great experience at Eastwood before with rich and challenging content, but everything has changed since 3rd grade began three weeks ago. She feels that ?3rd grade is more like 1st grade?, which concerns me tremendously.

Does anyone know good tutors for math and writing? Any recommendations for another IUSD school, non IUSD school, or private school that is more academically rigorous?

We switched to private this year (academics being one reason) and our 3rd grader took a few weeks to adjust to the difference in expectations and is doing great. I like the relatively smaller class sizes and at least for math, they teach a grade higher (e.g., 4th grade Saxon math textbook in 3rd grade).

Though it is early, so far we are quite happy and would recommend checking the school out.

Eastwood Elementary has always been known for it's lack of academic focus.  The school puts more emphasis on being a more "well rounded" student.  I think this is fine with earlier grades, but starting from 3rd onward, it needs to get more serious as your child will eventually compete with kids from other schools in middle school.  The "no homework" policy is a joke and I think will do more harm than good once the kids reach middle school.  Any other IUSD will be more academically rigorous.

I believe Beacon Park is also on the "no homework" bandwagon.

Yeah, the "no home work" policy is something that I don't like about EW elementary.  I also agree that academic focus is very low in the EW elementary. Kids learn from outside tutors...for homes in EW that people pay such huge prices, I wish the elementary school paid more attention to academics. I know of parents in EW who put their kids in neighboring schools due to this.

Second most number of Covid cases at Eastwood Elementary compared to the other IUSD schools, and it has been less than a month school opened. 10 cases reported last week alone!?!

Paying that EW premium for Covid, but really hope no one on TI has kids with covid. Stonegate was the elementary school to go to, I'm pretty sure it's still ranked high and across the street from Eastwood if you get a house near Jeffrey Trail.

Stonegate has fallen in the rankings, now beaten by Portola.

When I think back to everything I learned in elementary school that prepared me for success, it is really the homework that stands out

But BR and FR won't give you $200k - $500k ROI in 2 years that EW does.

Have you tried Aloha Mind Math (at the Woodbridge center)? The school offers classes in both math and writing. Our child does a math class once a week, and we've seen marked improvement since he started. We are considering enrolling him in the writing class so he can improve with his reading comprehension and writing.

I felt the same, as I realized there wasn't much homework coming home and was being finished within 20 minutes or less. My husband swore that since the school years just begun the work will come and soon I might bite my tongue. We're in Portola Springs with boys in 2nd and 3rd grade. When I asked the teacher if there would be any more work coming home as the year progresses the answer was no. We supplemented with Russian School of Math which they like.
