Do you I know if it?s better to get drawings approved by engineering firm and then hire contractor or just hire a contractor to get plans approved and build?  Just trying to add a balcony off the master bedroom.  Let me know if anyone has recommendations.

The contractor will need to have an architect and/or structural engineer on staff in order for them to design the balcony and get it permitted by the city.  You'll also need it approved by the HOA if you have one.  Typically contractors will want the approved plans to provide you an estimate and then pull the issued permit once you proceed with them.
