Post winter break DL shutdown

Seeing other districts like Fullerton are announcing post winter break shutdowns with DL only for week after winter break and no extended care and then DL continuing until Jan 19th, with extended care with 'school employees'.

District says needs until then to get employees tested and requested people test their kids before returning.

How long before IUSD and TUSD follow suit?

Given the current trend in infection rates and hospitalizations, I would not be surprised if IUSD and TUSD go all DL post winter break. Won't be such a big deal compared to last Spring. The teachers are better prepared, students have the hardware, and the districts already have online curriculum in place.

A friend who's a teacher only had 2 students show up to their class last week, everyone else was logged onto zoom, I assume parents are making more kids stay at home even if in class learning is available, but have an DL alternative.

Many districts are proud that they are staying open, but this pride is also adding to the asymptotic spread by students.

Students are attending for different reasons; elementary students are attending due to their parents? choice and high school students attend to get out of the house. More high school students are now skipping hybrid to stay at home because it?s easier to complete a test at home.

As for schools staying open or shut; I would support the first week as DL to get most families back in one place from the holiday interactions. Almost like a simple quarantine from extended family.

Two things being overlooked, but only one can change.
#1 Families MUST report any Covid cases to schools ASAP, but most don?t.
#2 All public schools in OC must follow the CA Department of Public Health?s recommendation and have their entire staff tested every two months; with all at once or on a rotating basis.
For now, school Covid numbers are incomplete and no one will draw attention to it because the result could be closing schools.

Two additional districts and their data:
Capistrano Unified School District

Saddleback Valley Unified School District

Remember, this data is only those families who report their positive results to the school districts and these districts are not following the California Department of Public Health?s recommendation to test all teachers and staff at least once every two months.

20 reported current cases in Capo USD
84 reported current cases in Saddleback Valley USD

These are only reported cases as not all families notify the school and the staffs are not tested by the employers.
