Looks like Beckman has finally eclipsed all of IUSD.

"Southern California has two of the top 20 high schools in the nation and five of the top 10 in California ? including the three best ? according to a report released late Monday night, April 20.

The California Academy of Mathematics and Sciences, a Long Beach Unified magnet school in Carson, came in 11th nationally in U.S. News & World Report?s 2020 rankings. CAMS, on the Cal State Dominguez Hills campus, also ranked as the seventh best magnet school in the U.S.

Cypress? Oxford Academy, a regular high performer in these rankings, was 19th nationally, the same spot it occupied in 2019.

Whitney High School, in Cerritos, fell from the 14th best high school nationwide in 2019 to 30th this year."

Back in my day, my alma mater Whitney was sitting pretty in the #1 spot in the nation. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Must be because my intelligence is no longer contributing to this measurement.

Does anyone send their kids to any of these specialized schools? Looking at "real" high schools it seems the #1 is SF Lowell, then Mission San Jose and the usual Bay area suspects. I think PV is the highest ranked "real" SoCal HS. Still awesome results for Beckman.

The Bay Area public schools definitely has a much higher caliber of students due to both peer pressure among students and Tiger parents. In Fremont where I designed homes the paramount criteria for home buyer is Mission San Jose.

I said a long time ago that Beckman will eclipse the IUSD schools. That was the reason my daughter went there. At that time it was a toss between OCHA and Beckman. As the IUSD population shift to the wealthiest immigrants the school performance declines.

Beckman?s boundary encompasses the value village of West Irvine which is not on the radar of the new money immigrants. That is actually a blessing. Although there is West portion of Orchard Hills but the population is not enough to dent its academic standing.

I believe Beckman is still a racially integrated school with a fairly high representation of other races.
