Covid variant B.1.617 U.S. to restrict travel from India effective May 4

Bloomberg News: U.S. Tells Citizens to Leave India as Covid Crisis Deepens

The U.S. told its citizens to get out of India as soon as possible as the country’s Covid-19 crisis worsens at an astonishing pace.

In a Level 4 travel advisory --- the highest of its kind issued by the State Department -- U.S. citizens were told not to travel to India or to leave as soon as it is safe to do so. There are 14 direct daily flights between India and the U.S. and other services that connect through Europe, the department said.

U.S. to restrict travel from India effective May 4 as Covid surge devastates the country

The Biden administration will restrict travel from India as that country grapples with a gigantic surge in coronavirus cases, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.

The country is battling a highly contagious Covid variant, known as B.1.617, which was first spotted there. The variant, which contains two key mutations that have been found separately in other coronavirus strains, is believed by some to be behind the latest wave of infections.

Did you look at your link?

Here is the graph on your article:

See that little rise in slope at the end? That's the "uptick" I was referring to.

Find California's and it's not any "better" as you misinformed here.

Purple doesn't make it factual.

Florida health advisory says go mask free once you’re vaccinated.

Just for comparison, India, the country, reported record cases on Friday.  Their incidence rate is 28/100k.  We’re restricting travel, in a few days.

Florida reported mild cases of 5306. For an incidence rate of 25/100k.

The 7 day average incidence rate is actually higher in Florida than India.

I’m not belittling India, they are having a crises, we however are in strong denial on how fast our situation can change in the States.

India reported 400k daily covid cases. Is that the world record for daily covid cases?

I don’t know if it is denial as much denial as it is positive trends/indicators. I think 30% (100 million, 40% of adults) of the US population is fully vaccinated. Then if you consider those previously infected (32 million known infections, plus who knows how many unknown), that probably adds another 10-20% if the adult population that has some defense mechanism. And it appears the actual issue in India is the poor healthcare system vs ours in the US since based on your numbers on a per capita basis it seems that generally their infections are no worse than ours.

I think it’s good for people to start turning the corner and being more positive as we exit the pandemic.

By your own definition, Florida is not "better" than other states either.

You can't have it both ways.

Case numbers metrics are by some measures worthless. Example - the US may see higher case numbers, but those vaccinated will not have as severe issues as would the unvaccinated. Higher case numbers but far fewer deaths isn't what India is going through at present.

Death count also is hard to compare also as their health systems, their mortuary practices, their population age, weight, etc aren't congruent to our healthcare systems or population.

All we really know is this: A terrible thing is going on over there now. I hope the US will ship as much of the vaccine materials as possible as it's the only way through this.

So two maskless yacht openings means NO ONE cares anymore.

Another great morekaos fact.

We hiked the loop at Peter’s Canyon.  Beautiful weather, good solid breeze, parking lot full and plenty of people passing by.

Even with a good consistent breeze, everybody observing social distancing, roughly 3/4s of the people were wearing masks outside while walking the trails.

Virtually everybody wore masks while in the parking lot or at the pay station for the parking permit.

We wore ours to get the parking ticket and walking out of the crowded parking lot and then removed them.  So many people were wearing them that we crossed paths with, I almost felt like a lazy *ss for not wearing mine.

We also picked up brunch, everybody had masks.  Hit Costco, all masked and no brazenly chip diaperers running around.  Stopped at another store, yep all masks.  Went home, had to hit Ace for home repair stuff, yep, even more masks, then hit Trader Joe’s, you guessed it, masks everywhere.

If you have been mask compliant for the last year, the new guidelines will take time to accept. If you were a non believer, then nothing has changed.
