Restaurant/food recommendations for NYC?

I'll be visiting Culinary Institute of America in upstate New York this month, planning to spend some time in Manhattan to catch a couple Broadway shows before returning.

Does anyone have recommendations for food in NYC?  Last time I visited was over a decade ago.  I plan to visit Di Fara Pizza since the owner-chef is likely to retire due to old age.

Gallaghers for steak - only place in NYC with a grandfathered license to grill over charcoal. Quality Meats for steak as well.

Really cool Midtown lunch spot is PJ Moran's Irish pub. Lunch requires a reservation. The corned beef sandwich is excellent.

Magic Hour is a rooftop bar with a carousel - near Penn Station. Really fun.

Junior's for their cheesecake, Peter Luger for their porterhouse and then their 'schlag' (whipped cream), Katz's Deli for their pastrami.

Enjoy your trip :)

Arrived in Manhattan.  Watched 2 Broadway shows, "Hamilton" and "Hadestown".  Most of you have already heard or read about Hamilton so I'll skip to Hadestown.  Definitely...  political with references to the wall and socio-economic/class warfare themes:

Gallaghers was an excellent recommendation.  I think NY steak here cooked to medium is perfect.  Medium-rare just doesn't have enough flavor.

Manhattan is like Vegas casino area, not the real NYC.  But in general I think NY is now cleaner than San Francisco.

Biggest difference between NY an CA, in NYC you have a long line of locals with their hands out to shake down tourists.  In CA not as much (visitors just throw themselves at tourist traps).  In CA our squirrels would ask for handout, in NYC central park the squirrels don't come up to you to ask for a handout, the humans do and when you refuse they throw profanities at you for being a tourist who only wants to take and not contribute.  The squirrels in NY do look larger and more plump.

Due to the success of Chelsea market, other areas in NYC is trying to imitate.  Essex Market was remodeled and opened yesterday as a market and upscale food court.  Regrettably the quality of the food and selection at Essex market is still far inferior.  I tried 3 vendors for food and they were all mediocre.  But not all stores are open and they're still building out.  Hopefully the quality will improve over time.
