Do i need city permit to built a pergola?
Is it necessary to get city permit to build a pergola in your backyard?

Not fully answering the question, but I'd assume you'd have to if it would have power running to it - recommended as lights and a ceiling fan are often a "must have".
I'd suggest knocking on the doors of some of the neighbors who have built these structures to see what their experience was both with the HOA and the City.

If you have an HOA, you'll need HOA approval for it regardless if you need a city permit or not.
