Can you get license plate at AAA?

When I bought a car from a CA dealer, the dealer mailed my license plate directly to my home.  This is the first time I am buying a car from out of state.  Dealer says I have to pick up plate from local tag office.  They cannot mail it to me for some reason.  Why is that?  Can you pick up plates from AAA?  If not, which DMV do you guys have best luck with least wait?

Yes, you can do out of state title transfer at AAA and get the plates at the office. Just bring the title, smog test cert., and cash in and you will be good.
