Two locally created food shops are hosting giveaways this month.
Liquid nitrogen shop Creamistry will be giving away free ice cream from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at its newest Costa Mesa location. Attendees will receive a single scoop of ice cream with no toppings or mix-ins.
The Yorba Linda-based company makes ice cream in small batches and freezes it in front of customers using liquid nitrogen.
Liquid nitrogen freezes the ice cream ingredients on contact, which creates a smooth and creamy texture. It also creates billowy clouds of vapor that patrons can see above the bowl.
Owner Jay Yim launched the first Creamistry in Irvine in 2013. The chain has more than 35 flavors from which to choose, from including birthday cake and black sesame. The store also sells milkshakes and ice cream cookie sandwiches.
The Costa Mesa Creamistry is at 3033 Bristol St., Ste F, near the newly opened Halal Guys. Creamistry has locations in Irvine and Mission Viejo but the giveaway is restricted to Costa Mesa.
Santa Ana-based Nekter Juice Bar is celebrating the 5th anniversary of its flagship Costa Mesa store with a few giveaways.
Leading up to its Oct. 9 anniversary, Nekter is hosting a social media campaign where fans are eligible for gift cards and merchandise. Nekter is asking Instagram followers to share stories on how Nekter has changed their lives. Stories should be posted using the hashtag #IAmNekter. Fans can start posting inspirational stories on Friday, Oct. 2. The promotion ends Oct. 26.
On Oct. 9, the Costa Mesa store?s anniversary, shops are hosting a pay it forward campaign. For every juice purchase, customers will receive a voucher for a free 16-oz. juice or smoothie. The idea is to give the voucher to a friend, co-worker, or stranger, Nekter said.
Vouchers also will be given out for those buying a smoothie or acai bowl. The offer is valid at participating Nekter shops on Oct. 9 only. The voucher must be redeemed by Oct. 31.
