Kids Coding Camps

When did your kid start coding? My dad started teaching me when I was 5 but I just don't see my 4 year old having any interest anytime soon.

How do you usually make them interested in coding ?  what programming language / activities do you start them with ?

I remember taking a C++ class during my freshman year undergrad, hardest class I ever taken.  My first wake up call in college, Barely squeezed by with a B.  Still have nightmares at the computer lab debugging my program for 5 hours straight and still not working!

Minecraft is a gateway drug for creative computer thinking. Minecraft -> sploder -> scratch
http://www.sploder.com/

Next, get a Raspberry Pi and let them loose on scratch:
http://www.raspberrypi.org/tag/scratch/

We also did the HTML class through the enrichment program via TUSD (teacher was a little strange and had a temper, but it was fine for an intro).

Our boys started at 6 and 8.

One is much more into it than the other, and I'd say they were more broad than deep in their skills. That said, the younger one has made an app for iOS, Windows Phone and a python-based web game (battleship clone!). He's working on an Android app now. These are all very simple programs but he has the interest in creating and seeing his creation through.

Wait, I thought you were white?
