Z wave automation

Is anyone familiar with Z wave?  I have a few devices at the house. They are giving me Nexia free for a year to manage the devices (light switch, thermostat, door lock) but it's $10 a month afterwards.  Is there a free option out there where I can just buy the hub?  Can it easily take control of the devices?

get one of these. you just buy the box and no service fees thereafter. zwave compatible.

yeah its vera. i looked at these when i was looking at nexia as well. not sure what kind of lock you are getting but if you get the kind where when you enter a code the deadbolt locks/unlocks that is going to drain your batteries very fast. get the kind that just activates the deadbolt and you have to manually turn it and the batteries last much longer.
