Hahaha! How did you know? I am looking at the website now. So many items, so many locations to cover. We were talking strategy after dinner earlier and she said, "Maybe we can take 2 cars. You go your way and I go mine." ...Ughhhh

No kidding. Last year, we waited in line at Circuit City. It was freezing around 4 AM. We ended up with the TV I am watching now. But after Circuit City, it was pure madness to find parking at other stores. I think this year's strategy will be to hit the mall. More stores to cover.

Renbac,

Hahaha! I didn't catch that "Depend briefs". You are an honest man. I didn't want to mention it. But yeah, it was cold and I couldn't find a place to take a piss.

A. The briefs were just a planning tip...I did not state that I have ever gone that far

B. TMI my friend, TMI

;-P

Also, some TVs at Best Buy are already discounted to their BF prices. The deals on the Sammies and Sonys are pretty good (46" 60hz for less than $850 and 120hz for less than $1000).

Also Walmart is open on Thanksgiving and will stay open through to BF in order to prevent the mad crowds from previous years (although BF deals may only be valid from midnight Thursday on).

I need a raincoat to shop at Walmart. I can't be seen by my Irvine friends.

When I go shop at South Coast Plaza I learned some Asian trick: Parade several recycled oversize decoy LV bags with empty LV boxes. Pretend I am tired from carrying all those LV bags and make other shopper envious by dangling the bags in front of their face. I get good service at any store.

If I had to shop at Sears then I must hide the Sears bag inside the LV boxes. This is the reason why Asians never throw away the LV shopping bags.

Check Ebay and you would be shocked why buyers want to buy LV shopping bags.

At least you don't have to go out and buy a new raincoat for Black Friday. The one you usually use should work just fine...

Costco has some really good BF deals on Sammies right now. The Best Buy $397 32" model is on sale there for $379, so you can avoid the rush and crowds on Friday and get some stuff now.

(do I have a flat screen fetish?)

You have a flat screen addiction but not a fetish.

If so it's catching. Aside from normal present shopping, there are some great deals out there.

We just bought a Panasonic 42" G15 plasma for the home gym from Amazon and got free shipping and a free blu-ray player, Sears has a smoking deal on Nordic Track Incline Treadmills with free delivery and set up right now, and I'm looking hard at the Zino HD from Dell. With the dollar tanking, this is probably going to be the last season for great deals on imported items for a while.

Now I remember why I don't like doing this stuff.

The last time I tried to go to a BF thing was probably 3 years ago... and I forgot how bad mob mentality was.

I attempted to go to the ToysRUs in the Marketplace to pick up just 2 things... bad idea. I didn't want to get there right at midnight so I arrived around 12:30... the line was still all the way down to the Best Buy (for those of you familiar with how far Best Buy is from TRU... it's stupid). I wanted to see how fast the line was so I went to the end anyways and as I'm standing there in the cold staring at the people who are line for Best Buy (which doesn't open until 5am) I realize that this is a huge waste of my time because even if the line moves quickly, it's going to be a madhouse in TRU and checking out will probably take another chunk of my life... so after about 5 minutes... I walk back to the minivan and go back home to vent this here.

I'll probably go to Target tomorrow morning but not until 8am (I did that last year and there was no lines at all). I'm not really picking up anything for Chriskwanzukah, just some stuff we promised the kids for Thanksgiving.

I thought the economy was bad... but when I see stuff like this... it boggles my mind. And it's funny... you see the guys who are scalping off tickets for stuff, selling their own toys to people in line and opening up their own mini toy shop (Transformers Starscream R/C Jet for $10!).

Ugh.

[quote author="irvine_home_owner" date=1259341152]I thought the economy was bad... </blockquote>Why didn't you stay in line? 'Cause it's not worth your time. But to a lot of other people it is worth their time. People would sooner give up gobs of their own time and endure untold frustration rather than forego BF deals on stuff. The stuff is the last to go. Consumer spirit is alive and well, finances be damned.

That article was interesting because I talked to the Best Buy people earlier this week and asked why they didn't have the BF LCDs on display (they started selling them early this year) and they told me the story about how the manufacturers make specific models for them to sell during this time of year that are neutered versions of the comparable models. So to put them on display when they will only be selling them for a limited time (and would probably be sold out in less time) did seem like the prudent move.

I think what gets me is that some of these deals at TRU weren't so good that warranted such a line. Maybe the Walmart ones and some of the ones at Best Buy (barely) but I just don't see enough savings to go through a 3-hour shopping experience. The only reason I was there was because I won't have the time to do this things today... although... I'm heading out right now to see how crowded Target is... instead of sleeping in... doh.

Target was much better... just like last year.

The employees said it was a madhouse at 5am but when I was there at about 8:15am, it seemed okay. I was able to get my two items I was planning to get at TRU (and actually saved money because there was a gift card promotion attached to them) and then because I spent over $100, they gave me another $10 gift card.

There still quite a few "doorbusters" left (even the 40" TV) but the really hot items were gone... which was okay since I had no interest in those.

The good thing about Target is that there is not a long wait to check out... unlike Best Buy where sometimes the line is huge even midway into the day.

Just more proof of that the general public is a big herd of mindless sheople.
