Farmhouse at Roger's Gardens
« on: April 22, 2022, 01:38:18 PM »

For those who don't know, Roger's Gardens nursery is located around the corner from Fashion Island and has a patio style restaurant located in the back.  Due to the pandemic many are concerned with safety issues.  The dining area of this restaurant is basically a large covered patio and you can feel the wind blowing through, so it's likely safer than indoor restaurants.

The prices are mid-high and daily specials tend to be priced even higher ($50 for halibut), but unlike other places where you get tiny portions for appetizer "small plates" the serving size here is anything but tiny.  I ordered the appetizer mussels and it was a full plate plus garlic bread.  The crusted halibut was excellent, steak was tender and corvina was OK.  The chef likes to cook with wine and post recipes online.  If you dislike wine reduction sauces make sure you let the waitress know.

The nursery is large and prices also high, they resale plants from Monrovia nursery.  They sell a lot of patio furniture and decor as well.  The seed packet section is worth a visit as they carry stuff not found at Home Depot or Lowe's.
