IUSD afterschool care CDC/Rainbow Rising Curriculum

Rainbow:http://www.rainbowrising.org/ IUSD Transitional Kinder:http://iusd.org/education_services/transitional-kindergarten/ My son is in TK and it's been wonderful.  Rainbow is also wonderful.  As a mom that works full-time, Rainbow helps older children with their homework... it really lets...

    Combo Class (Kindergarten/1st Grade)

PS9- my kid has been in the k/1 combo for a month now (year round school) and it seems fine.  At first, a lot of parents were pissed because we didn't think it was fair to our kids because we didn't think our kids were getting the full 1st grade experience (or kinder experience).  The teacher...

    Swim Teacher in Stonegate

We have a swim instructor that drives to our pool and teaches our 3 and 5 year old.  After about 5 lessons, our kids were swimming without floaties and swimming the full length of the pool.  He was an instructor from a really good swim school...PM me if you want his #.  $25/30 mins.

    Combo Class (Kindergarten/1st Grade)

It has been a week since my son started his K/1 combo class and while it is not ideal... the major benefit is that the Kinders go home at 11:30 so the 1st grade class (15 kids) has the teacher to themselves from 11:30-2:20... I hear that's a huge benefit (so i hear... ) The K/1 arrangement...

    First Day of School Tips

IHO- do what you have been doing :) My son started 1st grade on Tuesday and I've hung around for extra 20 mins or so after class starts to talk to the other parents.  Obviously, kids get shuffled around so you are constantly meeting new parents/kids... I try to scope the other parents out to...

    Combo Class (Kindergarten/1st Grade)

Thank you so much for all the feedback.  I feel confident now that my son will have a great experience.  All the feedback has been super positive so this is fantastic news. You can imagine a bunch of parents freaking out this morning when they thought they were in one class but were sent to a...

    Combo Class (Kindergarten/1st Grade)

Yup, year round school... Nothing like starting school in the middle of summer... let alone... today is his birthday :) He is a young 1st grader so he is probably closer in age to the kinders.  I think I am just overthinking it but I suppose they would never put a kid academically behind...

    Combo Class (Kindergarten/1st Grade)

Thank you for the feedback! And to Kalbi- my son is well behaved and works well independently and I guess I just have to give it a shot.  It is a good chance for him to become a leader to the younger kids especially because he is so young as a 1st grader... he won't be the little guy anymore...

    Combo Class (Kindergarten/1st Grade)

Yes, it's IUSD. My concern is during the 1st part of the day, what are they learning?  Are both Kinders and 1st Graders learning the same thing?  How will my child benefit from being in a class with Kindergarten kids?  I understand the upside is that after the kinders go home at 11:30, the...

    Combo Class (Kindergarten/1st Grade)

My son is in 1st grade and just got placed into a kinder/1st grade combo class... I don't know how I feel about this since this is all new to me.  Does anyone have any experience with a combo class that can share their experience with me? Any feedback would be helpful! Thanks!

Transitional Kindergarten after 2014-15 school year

Thanks! My youngest son would make it into the TK program in the 2015/2016 school year.  I hope the elementary school that my older son goes to keeps it at the school for 2015/2016 for my own selfish reason.

Transitional Kindergarten after 2014-15 school year

Does anyone know what will happen to the TK program after 2014/15 school year?  I have heard from some parents that it will continue beyond next year and others say that 2014/15 is the last year it is being offered. Anyone know?
