Unemployment rate improves for those who most likely have a home or are buying a home in Irvine

Unemployment rate goes down when: 1.) more jobs are created 2.) unemployed people get discouraged and stop looking so they don't get counted anymore

    Election Night 2009

I don't think there are any fiscally conservative, socially moderate politicians left, unfortunately.

    Takoyaki

How did you know it was Exilekiss? He doesn't divulge much personal info on his blog. It is a he, right? I love his blog. Especially since he writes about so many places in the South Bay which are a few minutes away from me. Eventually I'm going to move back to OC, but right now I'm...

    Takoyaki

Unfortunately I don't live in Irvine(or the OC). I go there often, but I currently live in the South Bay which happens to be Japanese food central. That's kind of why I always end up posting on these Japanese food threads. :) And I grew up in FV so I know that area pretty initmately...

    Takoyaki

Never tried it, but I know they have takoyaki at Ebisu Ramen in Fountain Valley(okonomiyaki as well, though it comes pre-made). Takoyaki also available at Kappo Honda just up the street and I believe Shin Sen Gumi Grill also has it. Never tried it at any of these places so don't know if...

    Election Night 2009

Wasn't McDonnell too far right for purple Virginia? The Washington Post sure tried their best to highlight his college thesis which espoused ideas that even today's conservatives wouldn't dare touch. I think the whole Deeds campaign was pretty much "McDonnell is a crazy freaky conservative!!!"...

Any Educated Guesses to where 30 Year Fixed Mortgage Rates will be in 2009/2010?

The Fed is supposed to stop buying MBS in Feb. Whether they will or not is debatable. But if they do, who knows where rates will go. I predict a downturn in the economy and another stock market crash will keep rates low in 2010.

Did the POMOs ending yesterday give people the signal to exit today?

I noticed put options shot up on a ton of stocks today out of proportion to today's drops. Market makers pricing in more volatility?

Goldman revised their predicted GDP number down to +2.7%. I think that's a pretty strong sign we're not going to see +3% tomorrow.

I THINK THE MARKETS HAVE TOPPED

Banks getting hammered today(well, a lot of things getting hammered today). Doomers are working themselves into a frenzy. I'm starting to doubt we're going to be able to hit that +3% GDP number this week.

Report Sheds Light on Why Homeowners Walk Away

Watch out the next time the stock market tanks. I'm sure there are lots of people not walking away because they believe the media that we're in a v-shaped recovery and the landscape is covered in green shoots. Any inkling that people get about just how big our economic problems are will cause...

It's Friday - Has your bank failed today?

FDIC out of money. Can't close any big banks. The one last week was a small fry to quiet the tin foil hat crowd. We'll see if we get any more small fry today.

    Moody's Economy.com predicts the following: LA home prices 2010 - 20.2% 2011 +8% and OC home prices 2010 -17.8% 2011 + 8.4% True or False????

I'm not sure how anyone is able to make predictions in this market. So many variables like backlog of delinquencies, tax credits, a coming FHA bailout, etc., are still unknown. With government just itching to pretend and extend some more, I really don't think we're going to see such a clean...

    FRONTLINE: THE WARNING

I hope one of the AGs(Cuomo or Brown or someone else) goes Rambo to bring some big fish down. I don't care if they only do it for their political resume. In fact, I hope that's why they do it. People are pissed off and looking for someone to stand up to Wall Street.

I THINK THE MARKETS HAVE TOPPED

That was an interesting last 45 minutes of trading today. It looks like we'll get to celebrate the Dow breaking 10,000 every day now!

the Left, the Right, and Wall Street

Just saw a mention on Mish's blog of this protest next week in Chicago: http://www.showdowninchicago.org/index.html It's ostensibly non-partisan, but I doubt many right wing tea party groups want to associate with some of the...
