Planning our next vacation

So we're thinking of a Disney cruise with our soon to be three year old.  Heard good things about it..  Anyone went on one recently or have other suggestions?

We are going on Disney cruise in a couple months and our little one will be 15 months.  We're going with a bunch of friends with kids from 5 months - 6 years.  It is a Mexican Riviera cruise and recently they changed the itinerary so that there is one day in Puerto Vallarta and two days in Cabo San Lucas (no stop in Mazatlan anymore).  We've heard good things and are really looking forward to it.

Was Mazatlan canceled due to safety reasons?  Maybe Disney can have some armed escort militia like the Costa cruise in the Indian Ocean..  might be traumatizing for the kids to see Mickey with a gun blasting away at drug cartels...

Yup, that's the reason.  Mazatlan has been removed from the itinerary of many of the cruiselines that do that route.

They can spin it as "Pirates of the Caribbean adventure cruise".

I've heard they have a one way cruise to Vancouver from LA, moving the boat up North for the Alaska trip. One of the larger suites is $6-700 per night, but not a shabby deal if you've got kids. 4 days if I'm not mistaken which is all I could take of such deep immersion into Disneyana.

My .02c

We thought about it, but decided not to.  Instead, this summer, we'll be either taking a driving trip to the midwest with stops along the way to visit in-laws... or flying out to the midwest and driving up to Canada for a bit.

PS - how long of a cruise and are you planning on leaving your child with the kid groups?  we have only heard positive things about disney cruises from our friends

I used to travel there all the time for work.  Amazing city in the summer.  Probably my favorite city in all of the US.  Highly recommended.  So much to do (and so much to eat).  Don't go there if you don't eat red meat, however.  Eating a steak the size of your head every night is a prerequisite in Chicago.  After you eat a pizza the size of your entire family for lunch each day.
Yeah... trying to convince the fam about Chicago this summer... they loved New York so I would think it would be a similar experience.

Any tips for Hawaii?  Going for the first time this summer!  Going Kauai, Maui, and Oahu.  Most of trip will be in Kauai and Maui.

We get the Auto Club (AAA) magazine.
It looks like they have some pretty nice deals and packages to the various islands.
You may want to check it out and see what they have to offer.

didn't think kauai was going to be my favorite island but it is.  green, lush, and not as touristy as the other islands.  i stayed at the hyatt in poipu and loved it. they have a pretty neat salt lagoon pool and many activities to do on that island like ATV tours, snorkeling, rafting, etc.  the island shuts down though pretty much around 9 pm.

maui is a little bit more touristy, but still not as commercial as oahu.  we stayed at the four seasons in wailea while we were there.  ate a mama's fishhouse, did the road to hana, and ate also ate at a restaurant in the grand wailea. if have kids and are bringing them, they will love the grand wailea. HUGE HUGE pools and waterslides.

have fun!

We went to both Kauai (twice) and Maui.  Loved them for the same reasons.  Less touristy.  We stayed at condos so that we could either decide to stay in and cook a meal or two for the kids or go out to eat.  The condo also provided a fridge to store any left overs from restaurants.  They also provided snorkeling gear and boogie boards.  One wall was all glass with huge windows and a sliding glass door.  It opened up to the beach so we'd sleep with the sounds of waves.

+1 for Kauai. Enjoy the honeymoon away from the tourists.
Kapa'a to Lihue is amazing.

The north side of Maui is very touristy now.

We stayed there but liked our visit to the south side... although they built an area there that is also touristy.

In Maui, you have to drive up to the volcano at sunrise... and you have to do the Road to Hana drive (very wind-y though).

Since you're 26 (or near there)... I think you'll like Oahu... but it's similar to coastal beaches in Cali.

And yes... Kauai seems the least touristy of the 3 but we haven't been there in 15 years (just went to Maui last year).

P.S. Don't let the beauty of Hawaii suck you into a timeshare... unless you like timeshares.
