Interestingly, everyone thinks it's getting more crowded here, but the data suggest otherwise...  more people are leaving year after year for the past 5 years.

This is saying the rate of outflow has been reduced by 50% since the last recession.

More births than deaths
More people coming from other countries than moving to other countries

1)  Outflow is half of the equation.  OC population grew by about 5% between 2010 and 2016.  That is to be expected considering the area has been in development for about 50 years.

2)  Most of the people here are in Irvine...which had a 21% growth rate during that time.
