Laxmi Low Glycemic Index Basmati Rice
« on: December 04, 2017, 11:07:08 AM »
Does anyone have experience with this product?

It's $7 for 4 lb bag, but they charge $10 for shipping.  Anyone know of local shops that carry this?

No experience with it. The link didn’t work, however found it on the web and amazon.

Looking at the back of the package it lists the GI as 52.  It also describes the rice as whole grain basmati rice with slightly nutty flavor.  The same wordsa and appearance as their brown basmati rice package.

Basmati rice GIs are listed as 52 to 57 depending one source.

In other words, this looks like standard brown basmati rice in health food packaging selling at twice the price of their standard brown rice.

I think I'll try Minnesota Wild Rice, Brown Basmati rice, and Pearled Barely and see how they do.

What I've noticed is that if I ate brown rice (*) for dinner, my blood sugar level is 140-160 in the morning.  But if I had steak and salad then it's <100 in the morning.

(*)  Note:  the Korean instant brown rice is 72 carbs per serving.

Yea, brown rice while technically low GI is still high GL.  GI measures how easily the body can convert it to blood sugar.  GL measures how much blood sugar it effectively carries.

That brown rice serving packs a whopping 37GL.  High GL is over 20.

An large orange has a GI of 40 and a GL of 8.8

That rice serving has the blood sugar impact of eating about 4 oranges.

How big is the Korean serving? My instant brown rice has a 1/2 cup dry (2/3cup cooked) serving at 39g of carbs.   The Korean one is almost twice that.

^^ 2 servings per bowl means 36 x 2 = 72 carbs per bowl.
