Home inspector for new construction?

I'm moving into Avalon at Eastwood. irvine Pacific homes. I had thought getting your own inspector was a given but was surprised to hear many people say they don't think it's necessary with a new construction and because we have warranty periods. What are your thoughts? Should I fork out the ~ $400 for an inspection prior to closing?

I always recommend that all my buyers get home inspections, even with new homes.  It's really good piece of mind more than anything.  You only have a 1-year home warranty with the builder so it's good to bring the inspector out before the 1-year home warranty is up after the home has been lived in.
