This article is written by an Australian "sex worker". It's about how men, as young as their 20s, are paying big bucks only to have someone to listen to them. They want deep discussions about politics, world events, and their lives. They go to dinner. They mainly want companionship. Sometimes cuddle. Often no sex.

"But even in her line of work, Ms Jovi says she is seeing a an evolution towards clients? needs for an emotional connection and online apps....It takes a while for guys to open up and talk. Men don?t talk about deep issues with each other, they need someone to talk to. They don?t talk to their wives about it, so they talk to the escort."

I see this a LOT where I work. It's a huge component of what I do, in an unofficial, "not in my job description" type of way. Some guys have no emotional outlet and are very lonely! Especially as they get older. My guys are all 55 & up. I concur, these men will spend 2 HOURS+ STRAIGHT talking to us about their lives, their careers, politics, the good old days, they like to tell jokes, etc. Boredom, loneliness, mental stimulation, who knows why they do it. I don't mind. I enjoy it. The other girl they do this to - she's 22 & tells me she can not stand it. haha. I never thought anyone could make a business out of it, though, unless you were a qualified counselor. That's 700 bucks an hour!! Australian dollars, anyway. Just to listen to guys talk! Man, I never imagined young guys in their 20s & up would purchase a service like this as it states in the article.

Before we all went out after work to "happy hour" together.  My whole social life used to revolve around where I worked.  Dated waitress and sometimes receptionists, secretaries and other colleagues. This is not the acceptable way to socialize now a days but was a very effective outlet to talk, vent and share.  The techno-centric generation now lacks basic social skills and never develops them properly.

I was just reminded of this article I posted back in March. I've found a guy that wants to pay $40/hour for me or someone else to go to his home just to TALK. He's a successful retired businessman who is partially disabled. He says he just wants companionship. I'm a little hesitant. He's probably just a regular lonely elder who is trying to stay socially engaged with the world. But I sure hope his expectations are professional and this isn't code word for something else. I guess I'll find out. On one hand, it sounds sort of crazy to pay someone $40/hour for them to listen to you talk. But on the other hand, it's nowhere near the $700/hour they're making in Australia. Then again, I'm out of stock on "cuddles", unlike those people.

Hello SoCal,

Just some fatherly advice from an old guy.  Don't do it.  It just isn't worth it.
