Water Filtration System

Neighbor is recommending water filtration system where it's installed under sink for drinking water and water softener salt system for entire house.  She got it installed for $5000.  Anyone have someone they recommend as that price sounds a bit high.

Yeah, just a bit.  Maybe they had to build a basement first to house the water softener.  Then she got a screaming deal.

USC who did you use?  Did you contact a lot of vendors?

Do you also have the drinking water faucet installed with the filter underneath the kitchen sink?

I use the filter from my refrigerator.

I used SoCal Water (www.socalwater.com).  They were referred to me by 2 buyers.  I did have a drinking water faucet installed with the reverse osmosis system under the sink.

Thanks for the tip.  I had Culligan come out to my house yesterday.  Guy was worse than a used car salesman.  He could not give me numbers until he finished his spiel.  At the end of it, he wanted me to buy the ugly ass system for $5k.  I had Kinetico scheduled to come out tomorrow morning but canceled on them after looking into SoCal Water.

Getting the Fleck 5810 XRT2 + Chloramine Backwashing + RO for $3800 on Tuesday.

FWIW - SoCalWater told me they do the builder optional upgrade of the water softener system for Shea Homes.

Most of my friends say salt system is better/newer.  What do you guys think?

Martin did you get a chloroquine backwash also (or did Anthony get upsold)?

Anyone ever heard of www.nuviawater.com ?

I believe that I did...I got the salt water softener with the full filtration system for the IRWD water.  I like my system, I put 4 bags of 40lbs salt into it recently.

How often do you replace the salt?

We paid $1800 for water softener and RO material/installation. Culligan and other name brand companies were quoting $2500+. Unfortunately, the plumber who did our work no longer services the OC area (He's from LA).

Culligan didn?t get that great reviews but $2500 is still cheaper than $3200+ from So Cal Water, unless they are quoting totally different products.  A lot of people said Culligan is on the higher end which means So Cal is also.

$1800 is a fabulous deal.  Salt system?  Fleck brand or other?
5 stage RO or 4 stage RO?

Anyone else get deals closer to $2k?

I did a quick search on yelp and found these guys in the IE.  I tried staying with 50+ reviews only.

Diamond Pure Water Filteration https://www.yelp.com/biz/diamond-pure-water-filtration-rancho-cucamonga-3?osq=water+treatment

West Coast Waterhttps://www.yelp.com/biz/west-coast-water-filtration-santa-fe-springs?osq=water+treatment

Aqua Prohttps://www.yelp.com/biz/aqua-pro-elite-systems-lake-elsinore?osq=water+treatment

Nuvia Waterhttps://www.yelp.com/biz/nuvia-water-technologies-corona-2?osq=water+treatment

I read this guy has pretty good dealshttps://www.yelp.com/biz/crystal-clear-water-systems-westminster-2

Let me know if anyone has experience with any of these companies.

We also used SoCal water and we paid more than $3200.  We got the Fleck + Chloramine Backwash + RO.  The backwash is a fancy name for "whole house filter + chlormaine removal".  Personally, I didn't even consider not getting it because my child likes to drink bath water sometimes so I'm not taking any chances.  Also, they came back to add a soft water faucet in addition to the hard water spout in the garage for free (so you can wash your car with soft water and water your plants with hard water). Salt based softened water will kill plants and grass.

I've lived in 3 different water districts in the last 10 years (including LADWP near downtown) and I'll say IRWD water quality is tied for worst hands down.  Our first 30 days in Irvine, our eyes and face were burning with irritation due to the water.  IRWD claims to use chloramine to remove "certain carcinogenic byproducts of water treatment."  Translation - we take out some really bad stuff but we need to add other bad stuff to do it.  Sounds like two steps forward one step back to me.

Clack valve. It is a salt system.

Most installation companies make a huge profit on these systems. The material cost is around $600-$800. For whatever reason, the water softener manufacturers make it really hard for the general public to buy the system outright themselves. If you can, then any experience plumber could install it for you. You would have to program it yourself although.

Called a few places.  Some have Clack and others have Fleck.  I think Fleck has the newer touch screens.  Not sure about Clack.

I replaced it for the first time (11 months).

Anyone find it necessary to pipe from RO to fridge just for the ice maker?  I don?t have cold water from the fridge.

I guess depends on how much it will cost.  You have to change the filters on the ice maker.  With RO hookup, you can just bypass.
