Bathroom Renovations in a new build

I'm thinking about redoing the tile on my shower floors and shower walls after escrow with a third party. Does anyone have any experience with this, or recommendations for a great bathroom contractor?

I don't have a contractor to recommend but advise you to make sure that whoever you choose will properly waterproof the shower floor and 6" up the surrounding walls.  In a new build, you'll oftentimes see builders let a puddle of water stand for a day or two in a shower enclosure.  This is done to test for leaks and its easy to spot leaks when there is no drywall installed.  It's harder to spot leaks in a remodeling scenario.  If your shower floor leaks, you may have a mold issue by the time you discover the leak.  Keep in mind that most home insurance policies do not cover water damage caused by a slow dripping leak; not to mention the mold caused by such a leak.  You'll also void the builder's warranty as it relates to that shower.  If you are not too far along in the process, I would recommend you get the tile you want in the shower through the builder.

Agreed about your home warranty, you clearly needing a recommendation means you don't know enough to avoid a disaster.  Go with the builder for plumbing related stuff.

Irvinebuyer: The builder has already completed the home with the standard tiles. I'm looking for someone who can do redo the showers the right way - from the frame up. Hot mopping, lathe, scratch and brown.

I would say Kohler Tiles but it had been a while since we heard things about them.  Did anyone use Kohler Tile in Anaheim lately?

I've used Tompkins for carpet and was satisfied with my overall experience.
I used Travis Kohler for some tile work and he was good as well.

That's a great idea! I will have the contractors meet me at the models to take measurements. Why didn't I think about that?  :p

By the way, who did you use for your tile for the bathroom and laundry? Venetian recommended that I contact Kohler Tile Company for my tiles but it'll be nice to have a few more quotes to compare.

Anyone ever put tile on an accent wall in a living area?  Maybe I'll get a quote from Kohler tile for this - thinking about doing this in my dining room.

Not on the living room but I did tile on one of entry wall.

Looks nice Inc.  Do you mind PMing me your contractors info?

Unfortunately that contractor is no longer doing these anymore.

I referred him to another TI member a few months ago and was told by the other TI member that he had since quite the flooring/bathroom remodeling business.

CV you looking for work?  Lemme know.

Not looking for work, I do however enjoy work on my own house. I can certainly give you a hand and nowaday its not a matter of not knowing how to it, because there are so much resources available online to help you tackle some of the things that decade ago a homeowner would not do because they don't know how. The question is, are you willing to get your hands dirty?
