In the next two years, nearly 2,600 homes in three new subdivisions will appear. New schools will open. And a new commercial district with hotels, shops and restaurants will materialize.

Parasol Park: FivePoint plans to open its next project in January.

The 727-home development west of the Great Park consists of townhomes and detached condominium-style units. The 85-acre development will have an urban feel, Haddad said, and will feature contemporary architecture.

Schools
Portola High School and Beacon Park Elementary are scheduled to open on Aug. 24, each with about 400 students in their first year, said Annie Brown, spokeswoman for the Irvine Unified School District.

Eventually, enrollment is expected to reach 2,400 students at the high school and average 1,000 students at Beacon Park.

In 2019, a third school will open on El Toro land. Like Beacon Park, it eventually will serve kindergarten through eighth grade and have around 1,000 students.

Wonder which district of GP is going to be the Parasol Park.

Most likely it is the district 1 mid and/or district 1 south, but district 4 is in the planning stage too.  Let's see if we can dig up more info on the Parasol Park.

District 1 Mid (the tread has no valuable info since it had been deleted): http://www.talkirvine.com/index.php/topic,13903.msg279562.html#msg279562

District 1 South:http://www.talkirvine.com/index.php/topic,13952.msg280314.html#msg280314

District 1 NoSo coming in 2016:http://www.talkirvine.com/index.php/topic,13886.0.html

The OC Register article references a map but does not include it. Perhaps you could ask them to release the map?

Easier to just go look for the Parasol tree.  If it's that big, you should be able to see it easily.  Google maps?

Proposed veterans cemetery will be right next to the District 4.

very helpful thanks.

it'll be interesting to see how it district 4 sells now w/o buyers that aren't OK with the veterans memorial/cemetery

Since we are on the subject of Great Park updates, here's map with some interesting info on it. (Sorry if this had been post already but I don't recall it has post it on the TI yet.)

Check out the blue area where future retail center will be at.  One smaller center will be at District 4 but a larger one will be on the District 1 mid which is where the Parasol Park will be at.

neat map.  i recall this one being a bit old back in 2011? wonder is there any update in it as in if the retail space in district 4 will be scrapped since i dont see it in mentioned in newer maps.

if they keep the small retail space at district 4, i wonder if the homes surrounding it will be those bit more modern live/work type of lofts to accompany it. otherwise i dont see how the stuffed retail space in between residences at district 4 will work.

Thanks for sharing. For District 4 - would timing be contingent on final decision of the cemetery location? I imagine 5P would want to set prices accordingly. And then corollary question, when would the "final final" decision be made re: cemetery?

200,000 spaces for Veteran plus eligible spouse and/or dependent children. Will be a very busy place for many years. Expect several events every day, often with PGR escorts, rifle salutes, taps, even bagpipes. Central Coast Veterans Cemetery will open September, already has 618 burials approved.

From the pictures so far it appears the Golf Course remains, just above the lake feature, unless this is "forest" of some sort.

Our Gang, do you have a higher resolution image of the cemetery layout?  Want to read the descriptions there.

So this Sep (2016) we will start to see and hear gun salutes, taps, etc.? I thought some folks on here said even after approval we won't see anything for years to come?
