What would concern me is the increase in noise and pollution.

They added lanes to the 405 and maybe it was just my older ears but it sounded like it got noisier.

Well...with more lanes...comes more traffic/cars so more sound is inevitable.

Personally, I'm for mass transit.

so 1 extra lane on both directions on the 5 between 55 and Alton exits. It will only help traffic? More noise for free way close villages like Cypress Village?

Won't it just cause a traffic jam when the extra lane ends?

Sure...bottlenecking.  See Orange Crush.  I think the idea is that the widening will go all the way to LA and probably down to south OC.

Reality is that as soon as the lane addition done, it clogged again. Simple facts, not enough through put to support the demand. The bigger the pipe the more congestion it will be especially during peak hours.

I travel the 5 fwy daily.  Lately, if anyone noticed the 5 fwy at the 605 interchange has improved dramatically although there are only three lanes, because they closed off numerous on and off ramps for construction.  This experience suggests we need to eliminate on/off ramps such as Newport Ave to improve traffic speed.
