IRWD Rate Increase?

From my bill due in Dec '14 to the one due in Jan '15, just the normal flat fee stuff went up quite a bit (in terms of percentage).

December '14 Bill:
Sewer Service Charge: $19.13
Water Service Charge: $16.80

January '15 Bill:
Sewer Service Charge: $22.55
Water Service Charge: $19.80

That's $6.42 extra per month (about 15% increase for us).

Did you guys notice the same?  If this keeps up I'm going to have to modify my screen name.

I believe irvine water rates are pretty low, friend in pasadena sees water bills in the $200 range normally.  Oh and I think qwerty left $10 for you at the greenhouse :)

I searched all over that greenhouse in the dark with bone chilling temperatures.  No sign of that 10 spot.

I bet J$ or Yaliu swiped it.

<-- Guilty.

C'mon... it's $10... and with gas so cheap, didn't cost me too much to drive over to PP.

compare the number of days billed, I just checked my account, last bill was 30 days, previous was 28 days, and prior to that it was 32 days.  Hence your 'normal flat fee stuff' will vary between monthly bills.  The usage rate brackets has not changed last I checked.

I did notice your water service charge is higher than mine, I'm usually around $10.

Whoa at first I skimmed over the "just the fees" part and got scared because my bills are from $50-70 per month for water.

Hmmmm ya the higher bill is a few more days of service than the lower bill.  I wonder why they do that, they should just have a 30 day billing cycle like everyone else.

Also weird that your Water Service fee is only $10.  Are you in a condo or detached house?  Wonder what factors into the creation of those fees and why they differ between residence or communities.  Could it be the size of the lot regardless if you use it or not?

The whole bill looks like this:

USAGE - LOW VOLUME                         4 CCF @ 0.88   $3.52
USAGE - CONSERVATION BASE RATE 0 CCF @ 1.34   $0.00
USAGE - INEFFICIENT                         0 CCF @ 3.91   $0.00
USAGE - EXCESSIVE                         0 CCF @ 6.22   $0.00
USAGE - WASTEFUL                         0 CCF @ 12.60  $0.00
WATER USAGE CHARGE                                       $3.52
SEWER SERVICE CHARGE                                     $22.55
WATER SERVICE CHARGE                                     $19.80
TOTAL SERVICE CHARGES                               $42.35
TOTAL CURRENT CHARGES                         $45.87

YOUR ALLOCATION FOR THIS BILL IS 12 CCF/8976 GALLONS
BILL CALCULATION BASED ON 1300 SQ FT LANDSCAPE + INDOOR ALLOCATION
WATER AND SEWER SERVICE CHARGES ARE BASED ON NUMBER OF DAYS BILLED.

I'm in a traditional single family house (whatever that means in Irvine).

Aquabliss,

My service charges before and after are exactly the same as yours for Nov/Dec bills.

Before: $16.80/19.13 for a $47.03 bill

After:  $19.80/22.55 for a $54.79 bill

They did that to me between this past month and May as well.  For this cycle it had 10 more days then previous cycle so resulted an increasing of 14 some dollar.  I thought there was a leak somewhere in my house I was not aware of but it turned out just the length of the cycle.  Why are they doing this?

The rate is changing beginning July 1st, so the first partial bill ended with the old rate and the new partial bill begins with the new rate in effect.

But the cycle is 10 more days: from 5/23 to 7/3 compare to a normal 1 month cycle in my previous statement.  This is what confuses me.

Rates keep going up.  Even after the drought is over.  They are advertising that this is the lowest increase they've had.

Inflation VS IRWD Rates
2009 -0.34% 99.66 4.70% 104.70
2010 1.64% 101.29 9.80% 114.96
2011 3.16% 104.50 2.10% 117.37
2012 2.07% 106.66 2.50% 120.31
2013 1.47% 108.23 2.30% 123.08
2014 1.62% 109.98 4.40% 128.49
2015 0.12% 110.11 6.70% 137.10
2016 1.26% 111.50 10.70% 151.77
2017 2.15% 113.90 2.20% 155.11

The end result in 9 years is IRWD outpacing inflation by 36%.
